The Stanburys and the Burlington Car Ride

A buddy of mine wants to visit Yukon. I told him about the riverboats that worked the rivers and the one still at Whitehorse. I shudder to think how long THAT thread might be! A 2,800-odd mile, 44 hour, road trip! Pfoof!

    Sherman in 1/16 scale.

Our new Cub "grass hot-rod" does a fine job. I finished in the dark this night. It'd nice to have LED headlamps that actually light your path! Still, as a school bus driver, I do not wish to have every vehicle or implement be Lellow and Black.

This looks like quite the little Fokker of a build so far!

The Stanburys and the Burlington Car Ride

Olivia next took us to Crapo Park. Pronounced "Kray-po". The locally restored Red Slide stands tall and ready to damage, um, AMUSE children of all vintages! Oh boy!! Mk.2 3-inch guns! These I know something about!! The guns command this stretch of the Mississippi river. The seats...

The Stanburys and the Burlington Car Ride

We all know "Those Guys". You see them at shows and some are vendors. Cheerful model people that are ready with a pun or a joke. Their eternally patient wives are just as sweet as any model maker could wish for. Guys that just by knowing them, improve your life and inspire Model Mojo. Yeah...

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

Ah, the long awaited, stinky-sweet smell of success! First castings are made without pigment as this sometimes reacts to the mold release and causes quality control problems. The third go is afoot, with light gray pigment as we speak. I am really happy with these results! @Greg Kimsey...

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

Poured, pressurized and 12 hours later, no bubblies! The 1/350 USCG SPC-HWX looks promising, along with the 1/700 HU-16 and terminal building mold. The cylindrical USCG Surfman award mold was like giving birth to clear! Squeeze, flex, relieve, squeeze, push "POP! (smack) Whaaa-haaa-haa!"...

2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

It is worth mentioning that yesterday was Don Barry's birthday. His sister Jeanette, sent some fairly surprising pictures of a very much younger Don. It is hard to believe our Big Buddy has been gone almost 3 years. The "German Enclave" in Colo, Iowa has a new, solid, East-facing sundeck...

2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

Don't know about the fart part but Dukes?! I know I unenlightened friends have no idea what Dukes is. I age my chunky Tootie salad a little in a sealed container before I serve it. Like overnight at least. I like to give the flavors a chance to mingle properly. Thus, the satisfying aroma on...

We buy ours off the shelf at the Indianola Fareway grocery store. No Cheerwine so far, but thanks to the Trents, I have a few glass bottles left on hand!

    Eduard 1/32 P-51B New Tool

I caused quite a flap on X when I offered my opinion about weathering bombs. As if a man might go flying about in wartime for months without dropping them.

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

I don't usually mix scales in new molds, but the addition of the 1/700 Martin PBM-3 Mariner Master to the 1/350 HWC-SPX hull mold made for a more efficient use of space and materials. The PBM rounds out the US Navy flying boat models I wanted to make. Skywave 1/700 P-boats (PBY Catalinas) are...

2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

Joe asks me to prepare and bring potato salad to today's Plastic Surgeons cook-out. Since Tootie Young's passing, Potato Salad has been renamed "Tootie Salad". Curt's wife made the BEST chunky tater salad, ever! I made it up Wednesday, in order for the flavors to mix properly but I've never...

I think you need a couple more sets of Gaspatch Spandau guns! I see no Snoopy decals for the rudder! Horrors!

I was hunting for that von Richtofen and Brown clip, where the General show up, and sees how Jasta 11 painted it's airplanes. Manfred says "Does the General believe that a German Officer should hide from his enemies?" or something like that.

    Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

I saw the 1/35th scale ICM CH-64 kit built last year, by a modeler I consider an expert, and NONE of this 3D aftermarket stuff is needed. Every time you add an accessory or aftermarket detail, you add the possibility of flaws as well. Then too, we model to please ourselves, do we not?
