The unfortunate thing for Bob was i got his mistake on Camera...:) I agree Paul i have a variable heat soldering iron which you can turn right down but even the small amount of heat needed will instantly melt the line if you get too close or touch it. so it still comes down to a steady hand...

I use 0.18mm mainly so i can get 2 threads through the 0.4mm brass tube when making the buckles. you can actually buy this fishing liner in black like this.

Bad luck Bob, we have all done it :-) but when it works its great, i use a soldering iron but you need a steady hand, there is no second chances if it touches a wire .....

The WnW Bristol fighter was way to heavy for its undercarriage but i laced it up with fishing line and when i tensioned it with a hit of localised heat it doubled its rigidity.

    Revell Aerospatiale Alouette II FINISHED

The door swings out at the top and not the bottom, i think people maybe trying to get it to open parallel, which would be a problem. Anyway glad to have this one out the way. :-)

    Revell Aerospatiale Alouette II FINISHED

Bit of an odd build this, the instructions are useless, i dont say that lightly, all stages only show one side of the model so anything on the other side is a guess. For someone into choppers this would be a great base for a detail build as there is so much more you could add. The canopy is not...

when i used that .3mm brass tube i bought a length of .3mm piano wire. put it in the tube before i rolled the tube on the scalpel blade to cut it then pull the wire out when its cut the tube stays round and easier to get the thread through. ie the wire stops the tube collapsing under the scalpel...

ha ha yes i wasnt suggesting you fit stainless exhaust valves :-), just mentioned it as it was a coincidence that one of the first uses was for this aircraft .

    Revell Aerospatiale Alouette II FINISHED

hoping to get an hour on this today, never been so busy in my life now i am retired :-) We have the makings of an engine . I have remade most of the frame work around it using 0.8mm plastic rod as its easier than trying to piece together all the broken bits in the bag :-) The rotor head is...

    Wingnut Wings Sopwith Triplane

Yes dont forget we are used to Bight Stainless/polished or bright drawn as we call it but in its natural form its a dull Grey. One of its very first uses coincidentally was by sopwith in the tripe engine exhaust valves, it was invented by mistake in 1913 by a guy trying to make an alloy for...
