Question for the guys down South...

Thanks Bob, I'll pass all that on. He wants to specialize in subs, so I'm sure he'll visit the Hunley.

Question for the guys down South...

My son is doing his Webb Winter work at a shipyard in Charleston, SC. They provide him housing and a car, he'll be there for 2 months. Besides BBQ, what else could an 18 year old look to do in the area on weekends? He'd love any military museum, etc and will be there with two other kids as well.

    2019 YEAR IN REVIEW

I rarely get to contribute to these threads, but then I remembered I did this this year (through entirely my own fault): Which led to this: I built something!

    The Death Dealer

Don't have to be a redneck, even a skinny, long haired metal/punk kid from NYC could dig that album. Although they suffered when DJB left. Some gravel on that dude.

    SMS GROBER KURFURST

Sweet. It's funny that these earlier ships look more modern that mid century stuff.

    Colossus-Building the Bismarck-Trumpeter 1/200th

They were always called 'fenders' around here from my Grandfathers tug to the dive boats I worked on.

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

This was is the photo I was basing the test on, turns out it's the Mo. I'm leaning toward stretch sprue hint of projectile on one firing.

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

I have most of those of those photos Paul, but didn't come across the Missouri. That one is perfect. It's dark (I want the blast effect to essentially light the whole model and base) and the wave disturbance from the shock wave is more interesting than the Iowa. Most photos are from the side so...

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

Heres another angle. Cast in levels of clear the texture won't stand out too much, but if it was smooth, it'd look odd.

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

After messing around, I found that if I keep the my hand at a consistently angle to the base and lay down an area, I can add some that are a bit off to break it up. The idea is they are wind blown as opposed to the swells. In this scale, they'd be about 2-4 foot seas in 15 foot swells. I...

    Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV/70 Complete!

Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV/70 (V) Lang Always loved the Lang. I agree, using the rubberbands would be a travesty. Watching closely...

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

The fireball is clear(ish) resin, still working out things there. The wave base is just wax now. I'll need a whole lotta hours of sculpting the rest. This is a sketch out to plan the layout. The closeup above is just the very front left corner. If I do the firing, I need the pressure waves, so...

    Dial 1 700 I N S A N E. Flyhawk Bismarck.

Thanks all. I'm hashing out the base and testing an idea to add main gun firing. I sculpted and casted quick fireball to see if I can use it to get a nice lighting effect. Here's the first attempt, will need a bunch of refining: And a closeup of the waves texture. This'll be cast in...
