A Great Modeling weekend. Now with pictures.

Star Trek……the musical where’s the darn cats!? I saw this the other night and thought my dementia had started…until I read the show description…then I changed channels to watch rust valley restorers (no singing there)

    Academy 1/32 F-16I SUFA

It’s a great kit, you’ll have a great time with it! braver than me removing the parts from the trees!! if I may make a suggestion, the Reskit exhausts and Zacto intake are beautiful additions to the kit and a drop in fit with the Aires resin parts

    Air Brushing

Welcome to the forums! when I first returned to modelling around 1997 quit again and restarting 2002 or so I inherited a compressed gas cylinder with regulators that lasted about 3 years. after that I built my own compressor system re-tasking a fridge compressor to a small holding tank (about...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

I used bubble windows from the spares box…not sure what they were originally designed for. the windshield is clear tape as well as the roof top windows which were dabbed with a bit of clear blue.

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

So the window and doors guy came around and finished the install I've added the last few things I could think of, It's not true to a prototype merely a representation of a CP-140..in my "striving for mediocrity" kind of way Thanks to all those who offered help, advice, "likes" or just...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

so, moving right along...gear doors on, some antenna added (more to go) and the decals are finally on, a flat coat or semi gloss at least for the final coat yet to do looking a little like an airoplane now... Thanks for looking

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

I've built up and painted the (technically incorrect but better than the kit) props, (temporarily placed) on the model for an idea of proportions and appearance...I can live with it and the decals I hope to use; Thanks for looking

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

The "rivet" decals in use here are Archer Fine Transfers (now out of business) but there are a couple of other makers, just google resin rivet decals...?

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

Thanks, yes quite happy with the build to this point. the instructions included in the C-130 flaps set illustrate how to build the screw jacks (as the instructions say, not included) from thin wire or plastic rod. I’m this far in I can’t not make them right?

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

Thanks mates! I've added rivet decals over a primer coat; I drilled and added .010" stainless pins to the flaps with receivers in the wings, a test fir looks ok; painted the nose semi gloss black and masked for the future dark gray; and finally have a coat of paint on the model, a custom mix...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

Thanks!!! Still farting around, I've made another new, improved (maybe) dome and added some pylons, nothing strictly accurate mostly for aesthetics original dome on the right under a bit of paint; test fitted; and some pylons; Thanks for looking

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

A bit more progress, nothing spectacular but still crawling ahead. I found better sensors so made castings and started sticking them to the model (had to chop off the earlier one, fill putty and sand) but like these much better began making the hat thingy dome that sits on top of the fuselage...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

built up some SAC landing gear, SAC takes a lot of abuse for being soft and to malleable but if it was tougher I'd never have been able to convince it to fit the model. I underestimated the nose weight, I cut the finger off a disposable rubber glove stuffed liquid ballast into it, stuffed it...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

Thanks! yes it’s big, I’ve banged that tail boom on the overhead light, open drawers at the back of the bench. I’ve knocked my glasses off with a wing tip….well, snagged my glasses anyway. When placed overtop a 1/32 HK Models B-17 it’s a close match in size, same length, slightly shorter in...

    1/48 Lockheed CP-140 Aurora

Thanks! I sent pics to the guy who gave me the model last night telling him I wasn’t sure I had the sonos anywhere near accurate, I was working from images and drawings but it looks like there’s a variety of layouts. The drawing I was working from is quite different from a picture I found later...
