Adventures in 3D Printing. Panzers and Fantasy

I'll be happy to try to lend a hand if you have any particular questions. Tinker CAD is sort of "CAD for cavemen," but every time I think I've reached its limit and tell myself to finish up my Fusion 360 lessons, I seem to be able to squeeze a little more out of TC. The .svg "trick" is really...

Adventures in 3D Printing. Panzers and Fantasy

The future is NOW! Once you get a little practice with Tinker Cad, you'll be surprised at what you can do. If you run into problems with total file size, brake the project down into smaller sections giving each one a separate file. Another really handy tip is that you can import .stl and .svg...

Thoughts on using a coffee mug warmer for decal water bowl?

Huh... I've always used warm water for all the reasons mentioned above by others, but this is usually a starting point - i.e. I run warm water from the tap to start with, but by the time I'm done, it's cooled down to room temp. Hardly ever a problem since most of my modeling projects (armor)...

Thanks, everybody, for all the kind words! All very much appreciated! Happy modeling!

Ok, so it's time to wrap this one up for good. The Camel model has been totally finished and permanently attached to the base. I'll still add a brass title plate to it later, and I'm painting a figure to go on the base. (I'll post up the figure project as a new thread somewhere here on MA.)...

I'm glad you asked that. Gives me a chance to explain, LOL! Aircraft tie down anchors for bare earth applications that are either hammered into the ground or screwed in - both leaving their eyelets standing just proud of the surface - are still commonly used today. In fact, most civil...

LOL! Yea, there was some real "Little Rascals" go-cart action going on with the ground mechanics.

    WNW Sopwith Camel F.1 USAS

No claim to ownership here! Details for the ground support side of WWI aviation are pretty thin. (Probably because they were also pretty basic and simple!) The tailskid dollies are particularly interesting. I was actually tempted to display the Camel with the tail on the dolly, but in the...

Working on a display base. Actually more progress than in these photos, but for now... The tail skid dolly is scratch built using a combination of reference photos from several different designs. There didn't seem to be any sort of "standard," so I imagine these were just fabricated by each...

Well, time to wrap this one up. I still have the display base and figure to do, so I suppose there will be one final-final last update. However, for now the Camel is completely finished. First up are a couple of glamor shots of the engine, prop and cowling. I meant to post these up...

    WNW Sopwith Camel F.1 USAS

Thanks! It's right out of the box, so WNW should get the credit. The only additions I made are the ignition wires (as shown in the instructions). It's really a surprisingly simple assembly design that WNW came up with. There are only four main parts (not counting the cylinder heads). The push...

    WNW Sopwith Camel F.1 USAS

Thanks! At this stage in the build I'm just going to accept that the engine can't be made to rotate freely and assemble the front end of the plane, basically calling it "gee" for good and "dee" for done. I'm really out of motivation and enthusiasm for anymore extensive work with this build...

    WNW Sopwith Camel F.1 USAS

It was kind of a surprise, but I can understand it. If the model is displayed with the cowling off, then the engine is dead-nuts correct size-wise. If the cowling is added, then trimming down the cylinder heads (just the rocker arms, really) would allow it to fit easily, and the obliterated...

So, a quick little update. I've finished the Clerget 9B rotary engine and the prop. Not a huge lot to say about either, really. The prop came out pretty nice, and the kit data decal is a very nice little touch. (There're actually two decal options, one for the Clerget and the other for the...
