You were right! I sided with the mild 8n tractor "experts" at first, because I wanted to be safe, who said that coil is to hot, however, the "hold my beer" 8n members said run that dragster Accel. It became quite the debate on the Ford tractor forum...haha. I'm running the hot coil...

I bet that did get heated. Wonder what's down stream from the coil that needs the extra power.

I don't know. The thing it can do is burn points. I thought about putting the milder coil in for a test. Problem is it's a bit of a pain and I'm learning that even though the tractors were all built to the same specs, over years of use they seem to develop an individual liking for this or that, that another one may not like.
 
Input voltage is key. I advise putting your resistor block back in line, or buy lots of points and keep a matchbook handy.

I have a new "no external resister" coil. When I put it in the engine didn't act as spunky, but yes, burning points is an issue with the hot coil.

What is the battery voltage with the engine running? Voltage regulator out of spec.?
A guy might think. 28 hp. tops, might not lend itself to a whole lot of "spunk".
 
There isn't any wiring going to the regulator. The tractor was changed to 12v at some point, so all the 6v stuff is un-hooked. The key switch has been changed to a push/pull ignition switch, then wired to a new start button.

Didn't hit reply for the voltage regulator reply. I wonder if the new 12v ignition switch thats on it has some sort of resister?
