    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    Had to take a hiatus from building; I went to eastern Europe in support of NATO operations there. So I'll dust off the Gnat and git 'er done.

    Here are a couple of snaps with my progress so far.

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    I slathered some Alclad Duraluminum over her last night after she got a rub down with some 3000-12000 grit sanding sponges. I covered my bug and left it overnight to allow the lacquer to fully cure. Once I get a couple of panels done up in a different NMF shade or two I'll post some pictures.

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    Here she is after sanding down the rough spots. It's primed again and sitting under cover until fully dry.

    So I let it sit for four days then polished it and wiped it clean and promptly stripped a chunk of the primer off. :bangs head So I set it aside for the weekend and will mess with it again at the beginning of the week. I would use acrylics...but I hate them with every fiber of my soul...

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    She's in the 'paint booth'; I sprayed her with a coat of Alclad gloss black primer two days ago. Last night the primer was still a little tacky, at least in the place where I left my greasy finger print. :angry: The problem areas for my build were the intakes, the canopy and the wing root. In...

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    Hey Ian, The picture's just blurry. I had to bend that bottom piece into shape, apply some gap filling CA and sand it smooth with a diesel powered belt sander.

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    Now that I'm done with my Bf110 for the Things We Love campaign, I started working on the Gnat again. By and large this kit goes together without any drama. Fit is a bit suspect in a couple of areas, specifically the intakes and where the wings sit on top of the intakes. I opted to put a...

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 ++FINISHED++

    Thanks everyone for the kind remarks. I really appreciate it. The first time I did the oil paint dot method I thought for sure I'd ruined an otherwise decent build. :bangs head But when it was finished (clear flat decals etc) I was shocked by how toned down the effect became. I found that...

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 ++FINISHED++

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 ++FINISHED++ She's done, well as done as it'll be for now. I'll attach antennas later. And try as I might, I can't get a decent picture of it; the lighting is all wrong.

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 ++FINISHED++

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 Thanks all for your comments. I'd like to think I make liberal use of the MFM principle when building. As you can see, the decals are going on. I experienced a slight wardrobe malfunction (disconnected tail surface). Also, note how the weathering has begun to look less...

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 ++FINISHED++

    Airfix 1/72 Bf110C-2 I got back after it and here are some pictures of the results so far. I use the artist oils streak technique on all my airplane models. For anyone whose never heard of this or done it, the technique is simple and the results give your model a sense of motion. Basically...

    Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1

    I've started on this the other day. I built the cockpit, attached the main wheel wells, and intakes, and did some minor sanding to (hopefully improve fit. THEN, I discovered Pavla (?) does a cockpit for this kit. The cockpit is more expensive than the kit, so I'm trying to decide if 'I run what...
