I've never contemplated living in a tin can for days at a time, so I don't know what's required in the field but that is surely one of the items .
Keeping water in the vehicle seems more practical.

Space is very limited in a armored vehicle even today. Water and nearly every thing else is carried on the outside of the vehicle.

That's what I thought . Given the amount of water needed for one person per day under those conditions , they would probably all die without constant resupply .
Glad I chose to do something else . God bless them all for doing that willingly.
