Stug III ausf G Late

Great page,James!

Drinking gallons of coffee to speed up your build is not good for you! :D

Looking good,btw! (y)

Greetings,Ron.

Okay so this is now considered a bust :vmad :(
A construction point was brought to my attention and I know it too. Today I just talked my self out of doing this the way I always do. I also tried moving from my tried and true method of attaching the sub assemblies and it didnt work out for me. So whats wrong and what aare the lessons learned??

1. Leave the roof off until everything else is done. It makes it way easier to assemble the super structure over the gun. I know this yet glued it on anyways and caused myself extra work.
2. I install the front glacis, then the fenders, then the super structure, then the engine housing. I tried to glue them all together and did not work for me at all.
3. dry fit more often. The front glacis has about a 1-2 mm gap with the front. I dont know why. I can not make it fit. Nothing can be put on realistically to hide this problem. I just dont get it.

Here are the pics so far.

So now I sit and watch the almost whiteout outside my window and ponder what to do next. I am pretty sure I hear a Bipe calling to me.
James

Yep that's what I would do if that should ever happen to me.
Don't snort and rip take your time and gently pry it apart.
Not sure but it doesn't look like it's been glued down yet Pup.

Its down, and as far forward as it can go. It almost seems like there should be an armoured plate put on, yet there isnt one in the instructions. Its weird, and after all the Stugs and Panzer IIIs I've built I dont recall ever seeing that before.

Oh this just in. Seems Herman ate too much Sauerkraut and Wurst and passed gas. Shultz looking for the methane leak lit a match to see better. As the Stug was buttoned up the explosion caused an over pressure popping the front weld bead. I am thinking a new weld will have to be installed.

My story and I'm sticking to it :pp ;)

James :gogo

Well, you could have launched a mostly completed and painted model off the paint rack, landing directly on the gun barrel, causing the entire upper structure to come apart like I did with my StuH. B) Back up, regroup and refit it. (y)

This is a known issue. Strip styrene to the rescue!

While researching which kit would be best for my builds, I read every build online to see the pitfalls. I came across this build note calling to attention the gap and why it is there.

Regards,

Well dang. I thought I had done something. Thanks for the link Saul. Adding a weld bead would have been wrong then. Will fix this tomorrow. Appreciate it :D
James

Saul you did good sir.
Things like that just bug the heck out of me until I figure out why.

I've been looking all over the place for error reports and build blogs comparing his build and could see nothing out of place that would cause that gap.

Thanks, now I can shut the box down and relax. :D

Okay, problem solved. Found that one of the PE frames is not for this kit. Missing the chain for the front gun lock. Did find some other pe chain though and fought it on. Then started the framework on the aft deck and thats when everything went to pot. So taking a small break and doing some reading. That way I cant break anything fixing stuff.

Tomorrow Mike. Everything I'm touching seems to be not working out. I am almost finished though :yipee

I have a lot of those days to lately, it's better to go and do something else then, and come back when you feel relaxed and ready to give it another go! :zen :zen :drinks :good:

Okay so about to go to bed and then thought, lets take another look. Well one thing led to another and primer is now on.
