If you must do masking, I might suggest post it notes that are de-tackified a little. That way there is very little adhesion, just enough to lightly spray over it.
 
I will experiment with those suggestions on a test piece and see what I come up with.

I used Prismacolor fine line markers that come in a set with different colors. Has a few that work really well on the NMF. I used black on this one and traced the panel line and fanned out with a brush. Have to be careful as the ink does not dry to fast and can be smeared.
 
It's looking very nice . Did you ever get the finish sealed ?

I sealed it with Model Masters Metalizer sealer but its still very delicate.

Alclad is the way to go if you want a Hassel free NMF finish.
