Pre-shaded over the light grey primer,
Ready for the actual paint scheme ....of an overall light. grey boat with a greenish grey camo band all around the upper part of the conning tower and a darker grey (Than the overall boat )band under it.
Something like this ,
And this is the painted mascote for the U-20,this wil be in front of the conning tower ,Got the drawing from a book and had a decal/transfer made.

ldguy I have the u boat emblem book ,but sadly i does not say anything about its origin or meaning.
probably some old medieval German swan wrangler story.

Looking really good Piet. That book looks interesting. Is it all German or is bilingual? As for the emblem could it be Jack and the Goose that laid the golden Egg?
I found something that postulates it could be from the Grimms fairy tale of The Golden Goose. The boys name is Simpleton and one of the tasks he was presented was to find a boat that could sail over land and sea.

She was transferred to the U-Ausbildungsflottille as a school boat on 1 May 1940, then the Black Sea, avoiding the heavy British presence at Gibraltar and throughout the Mediterranean by being transported in sections along the Danube to the Romanian port of Galați. She was then re-assembled by the Romanians at the Galați shipyard and sent to her new home in the Black Sea so she could serve with the 30th U-boat Flotilla.[3] "

The book is in German no English cations ,
His name was/is Hans (Hans im gluck) also from a story by the brothers Grimm
About the transport of the boats and combat in the black sea ,i have this excellent book.....also in German.
In 1994 u-20 was found and recent the u-23
