The Dukes Armor in Progress: Updated 11/22/11

As promised, more updates....

This past Monday I only worked on my armored train. I spent the whole day painting camouflage on it and right now a little more than half if this train is painted.

Here it is:

I placed it on the tracks I'm going to use to display it. Doing this allowed me to see where I need to break off some wheels and re-set them so this sits properly on the tracks.

Here are some closeup shots of parts of this train.

The locomotive and two tenders:

The Geschutzwagen and Kommandowagen:

And the Artilleriewagen and other two cars:

There's a lot of cleanup and adjustment to do to all those camo patterns to improve them, so I'll be working quite a bit on getting this done soon. Then I have to adjust all the wheels too. Stay tuned as I will post updates when I can.

Well, it's a short update, but that's all I have for now. Thanks all for looking in.

That is looking pretty cool Duke. Now all you need to do is add a squad or two of Infantry on guard duty on the train.

Dave

Is that all you've done???

:dance

Now that is patience in action. Great work Mark, are you airbrushing?

Thanks Ron!

Thanks Dave! I have a couple squads that came with the train that I plan on cleaning up and adding to this train. Gotta get her all cleaned up first.

Yeah, Moon, I thought I'd take my time! LOL! :cheer:

Thanks for the compliment. No, I only airbrushed on the basecoat. This pattern is all done freehand with a brush.

Thanks again guys! Stay tuned for more!

Totally cool idea Mark. Although painting two squads of infantry will be a daunting task, I'm sure your up to the job. Great job so far.

Dave W.

Thanks for the great comments guys!

Dave, I'm hoping to weather it; I just have to figure out how. I know they get dirty, but I'm not sure the best way to do it.

Joe, yes it did. I was even able to refine that pattern later....

Thanks Dave Wahl. Yeah, it'll be pretty daunting, but not something I can't handle. After all, I have several hundred soldiers already painted; some are even mounted on bases for wargaming.

Okay, here is one quick 'kit' I started after completing the train in order to 'cleanse the pallet'. I put that word 'kit' in small quotes because the kit includes two vehicles. I shall still count this as two models. This is one of the Dragon 1/72 scale armored jeeps that comes in this tandem kit:

Again, my apologies for the pic quality. These little jeeps are about one inch long. I guess my camera was having difficulty focusing on something that small.

Here is the second one built and sitting next to the first one:

Next I added the wheels and photo-etch armor plates. These two are ready for decals:

Well, that completes my final Works in Progress Post for 2011. Any more pics will be posted next year. Some of these will most likely be done, along with some others not shown on this latest post. You'll see them later in my 2011 Year in Review Thread.

Meanwhile, thanks all for looking in, comments are always welcome.

Mark:

Those jeeps are pretty cool. I've never seen any of those before, but I have a twin pack of HMMWV's from Dragon that has the P/e in the kit also. How difficult is that to work with? Nice job on those 1/4s my friend.

Dave W.

Thanks Dave. I have also built about four different Dragon HMMWV packs. The P/E on Dragon kits is top quality. I have found it very easy to work with. If you still feel uncomfortable with it, Dragon does allow for their models to be built without P/E as well, most times.

Also, these jeeps are one of Dragon's newest releases. They come with pedestal-mounted weaponry. You can choose from a .30 caliber machinegun, a .50 caliber machinegun and two bazookas. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do.
