Ahoy there!
Enjoying the build and/or results is important. However, it is always nice when someone else appreciates the effort and work it takes to create something like this sub. Congratulations on the awards you won with it as they are well deserved. As far as I'm concerned this model is worthy of a berth in any War Museum.

yeah this was a bit weird (and disappointing). I got second in my category but won three special categories.
The category I was put into was single vehicle dioramas. The winner was a nice little half track with an ammo carriage sitting on a section of pre-made cobblestone base.
It was nicely done but nothing to make you look again and just a simple scene to set the vehicle in - not a diorama. I think the judge did not step back and judge the scene, but rather looked at the model as a stand alone. It had a lot of PE I think but was quite plain and simple.
My Uboat was oob except for the work on the guns and the water line. I don't think he judged the scene as a scratch built product or the painting of the boat and water - maybe he didn't like u-boats? :idonno
Anyway I had a lot of people come up to me and make the same comment you have as well as asking how was that possible after looking at the 1st place.

Anyway i am complaining to much which will accomplish nothing.
I had a good weekend and got some great results - my real disappointment was not being eligible to compete for the best of show award because I was second in my cat. Would have liked to have had a shot at that one.
It's all good though

Only attended that Expo once, in 2012. I don't think I'll ever go again, what happened to your model only proves my point.
If it was up to me, I'd put it in the Australian War Museum in Canberra mate, well and truly deserving to be on display for everyone to see.

Thank you Lawrence , I appreciate that.
When people judge a competition it is always subject to the human condition. So I just accept this and give it a go when I have something good enough to enter. I just enjoy be able to display the model mostly, as this gives it life.
The Expo is always a 'throw of the dice', but it is a great event overall and always provides a great display - where else can u see so many models in one place and get great deals on model sales( in Au).

100% with you on the quality of models and the numbers, wide variety and good deals on stuff.
The "What the ...." factor came from not being able to grasp the approach from some of their staff and some of the results as well. Fully aware of the judging criteria, have judged a few times myself, but suffice to say that I have witnessed quite a few people (modellers / exhibitors there) who were shaking their heads.
In stark contrast, ScaleACT in Canberra was a joy. Lots of models, lots of traders too and the whole feel of that event was second to none IMO.
Anyway, it's great to have events such as that one there, it only helps with the growth of our hobby, appreciate the effort behind it.
