Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk.IXE piloted by LtCol Vasilii Antonovich MATSIEVICH, commander of 26 Guards Fighter Regiment of Air Defence of Leningrad - ace with 24 victories (18 individual and 6 shared) - end of 1944.

26 GIAP-PVO (until November 22, 1942 26 IAP-PVO) throughout the whole war was used in the defense of Leningrad. It is one of the few units who, after promotion to the title of the guards did not change the number. Initially the regiment was part of 7 IAK-PVO (main fighter group used in the Winter War), while in 1942 it became part of 2 GIAK-PVO. In terms of equipment which had been used by the regiment is one of the more "experienced" units - its pilots fought on I-16, I-153, Yak-1, MiG-3, Hurricane, P-40 Tomahawk / Kittihawk, Spitfire, P -39 Airacobra, Yak-9 and La-5/5FN.

26 GIAP had on board a few very good pilots which had a ace status:

stLt Ivan Dmitrievich PIDTYKAN - 33 [23+10]
Maj Ivan Petrovich GRACHEV - 27 [18+9] - sole pilot of the regiment, who obtained victory in the Winter War.
stLt Vasilii Nikolaevich KHARITONOV - 26 [15+11]
Maj Ivan Pavlovich NEUSTRUEV - 26 [20+6]
LtCol Vasilii Antonovich MATSIEVICH - 24 [18+6]
Nikolai Nikolaevich APOLLONIN - 16

Very nice indeed. Well off the beaten path. I like a man that does not mind doing something different.

Cheers, Christian B)

Brave effort, i have an ICM waiting for attention but i keep putting it off. If it turns out like yours i will be well pleased :)

Damn great build, always fun learning something new. Did the unit not have problems with replacement parts though?
