Hi all. I am new to the site. My good friend Saul clued me in to this site., Looking forward to joining in. I am an old retired Govt worker and I love to build models and ride motorcycles. Been building models since the mid 1950 as a young boy and never lost my love of this hobby. I live in sunny Ormond Beach Florida the bikers mecca and Birth place of speed.:cheer:

If so....post pictures....I want to see all the lovely colours!!!!

Welcome Animal!

What you guys may not know (I hope you don't mind my telling), he is a vet and many of his gun truck models were inspirations. I see his handiwork in scale (look over at Real Model's gun truck offerings) and in reality. I will let him explain the latter.

I told him about the Charlie Don't Surf GB. Even if he doesn't join in, he insight (by actually being in Nam) should be valuable.

Regards,

G'day Animal and welcome to TnT :) ,

Well all of Saul's friends are most welcome here :) . I really would love to see your guntrucks , one day I will make a gun truck , the one I like best has a M113 chassis as the armoured cargo area ! :D

I really hope you will join our "Charlie don't surf" group build as it is a heap of fun .

Jenny

Jenny,

These trucks are M54 or M139 5 ton trucks. Neither are available as a kit but at least Real Model has two M54 conversions (one may be retired). The reason for two are the base kits as the earlier effort was for AFV Club's M35 2.5 Ton truck and the second for Italeri's M925 Shelter Truck (not Big Foot).

The M139 Bridge Transport truck has a longer wheelbase, larger tires, and larger cargo bay with a roller at the tailgate which allowed bridge sections (what else?) to be carried. It easily handled the stripped M113 hull within the cargo bay while retaining the tall sides.

Wow, I learned a lot from Animal (particularly since I showed him an M139 truck with APC box which he never saw before). The .50 Cal shield has a mouth, more vampire than shark on it. Yes, Animal has already dared me, nay double dared me, to try it.

I now have the kits (AFV Club M35, Italeri M925, and Academy M113), plenty of sheet styrene, and need to order some C channel.

THANKS ANIMAL!

Regards,

Hey you old dog , ........... I remember you from another site years and years ago , .......... good to see you here !!!

Welcome aboard, Animal.

I'm fairly new to this site myself and so far it has been a really good experience. I enjoyed your Medal of Honor tribute dioramas. Hope to see more of your work. You might want to look into joining the "Charlie Don't Surf" group build. I'm sure you can contribute alot to this site.

James

Hey, Animal!

I, too, have seen your awesome dioramas and have soaked in your knowledge of the subject.
So, stop messin' about and join the "Charlie Don't Surf" GB.
Peace and Love,
Randy
