Maquette T-34 obr 1941

On the bench !
Maquette T-34 obr 1941. Well what can I say? Weird plastic clunky details.... So here is the donkey work.
1. The upper hull is a T-34/85... That means backdating.
2. A 7mm strip needs to be removed from the front glacis to fix the rounded prow. I did this by measuring (twice) with a steel ruler and then used dynamo tape to set up a scribe line. The back of a hobby blade cut through after that.
3. The hull machine gun mount needed to be replaced... 🙄. Doing this created a cavity in the front armor. I anticipated this but it was still annoying.
4. I put a bead of Tamiya putty around the hole and pressed the replacement part into the putty. A bead of liquid cement helped to soften the putty and the part...
5. Dirty lacquer thinner helped to "rough in" the mount by spreading the thinner and smothing it somewhat.
Up next will be work on the weld bead and further blending and texturing the front plate.
Thank you for looking.

Maquette's "Conversion-in-a-Box" it an interesting approach but it looks like your off to a great start.

This is a carving and sanding and filling extravaganza! Get a load of this turret!!! And no, none of this fits together right. I had originally intended to have it with an open hatch not too certain now...

So while some structural cementing and bracing is drying, I decided to tackle the turret. Before I dive into that a little story. Growing up here in the 80s wasn't good for a modeler. Pretty much the only models on the shelves were cars and white box Monogram kits. About 45 minutes away was a hobby shop and it was there that I discovered armor 😍. At any rate the pre hexagonal T34 always seemed to escape my grasp so this being that, the build is special. I got this kit on the cheap as a post surgery project. There are MUCH MUCH better renderings of this tank out there, as we will see....

So this is the best fit I could manage with just sanding and trimming. The gap here is actually helpful and correct. There are pronounced weld beads on the real thing that follow these lines.

I will recrate the weld beads with stretched sprue and liquid cement. There is a ton of this work to do...

One challenge is the plastic in the kit doesn't like to stretch so into the scraps box! Annnnndddd.... The two plastics do not soften up at the same rate... Time for some concentration!

That's it...beat that plastic into submission! :bat
it actually looking really good...thank goodness for welds!
:victory:
