LSSAH Normandy 44

I wanted to copt this picture(fair use please) from the history of 7/SS PzRegt1. I thought that the guys really looked like front line dudes and not photo ops. I understand LAH arrived in Belgium just prior to the Invasion without tanks and so the PzIVs that they recieved must have been J models but this one had Zimmerit. Hmmm. It also has the tow shackle missing from the right front and so has the tow hook attached to the open final drive inspection hatch. Nice little detail. Anyway here is what I have so far,

Great idea,Jerry!

Zimmmerit was factory applied until September 1944.Field application continued till October 1944.
So ...Yes,a Panzer IV Ausf.J in Normandy COULD be with zimmerit. :)

Greetings,Ron.

You know i do often wonder when looking at photos of these youthful soldiers like these if any of them made it through

thats not specifically German but all sides

Sadly, given the causualty records of LSSAH in Normandy and specially the Pz Regt, most of these guys probably did not make it out of the Falaise Gap.
When you look at their faces it gets kind of hard to believe all of our sides war time propaganda doesn't it? But then again,I always remember the quote"There is nothing more dangerous than an American teenager with a machinegun". I suppose that would apply to any army?
Thanks for looking in Andy, and all.
I need to get back to the horsies though. I am trying to get better at actually finishing things.
J
