While I was working the ER @ the 332d EMDG, Balad, we saw 8 young Americans die of injuries and wounds received in action. In that same time we saw over 1600 Service members of all types, friend and foe.
Those youngsters had family and friends hoping for their return...
I don't remember any names, but I do remember going through the belongings of one young Marine who had a pretty wife and 3 adorable kids... It breaks my heart to think that those children, as millions have before them, will grow up with "daddy" being a picture on the wall and a shadow box on a shelf.
Today we honor those young men and women who have paid a heavy price for our freedoms and we remember the families they left behind.
All paid some, some paid all.
