GI Combat The Haunted Tank

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
Finally, it's winter break at Iron Mike's! :drinks I'm in between projects at the moment, although the tracks I've been waiting for finally arrived, so I decided I needed a fun project. This kit has been in my stash for a couple years, I knew the minute I saw it, it would become The Haunted Tank from the 60's comic GI Combat! The ghost of General J.E.B. Stuart watches over the crew of the M3, but is only visible to the commander, Jeb Stuart Smith (shortened later to Jeb Stuart). His crew thinks he's crazy, but follows his lead.

One of my favorites from grade school, so here's the build.

The kit is old, but the fit is good and there's little flash.

The handles were molded in solid, so they had to go!

Wow that brings back memories. Great start to the Stuart. Looking forward to more.

At the last GCMB meeting I attended, I won a another Tamiya Stuart in the raffle, so after letting this one simmer for a bit (ahem), things are sort of back on track (ahem). I had shot the base color right before all the eye thing kicked in and I hadn't moved it from its spot on the shelf until this morning. I added highlights of Tamiya Dark Green mixed with Buff for some panel accents.

I robbed the set of tracks from the second Stuart, my first set came apart when I tried to force dry the track wash with the hair dryer(so much for instant gratification, note to self, plastic tracks, oil based wash, heat, bad combo)
The second set got a prime coat of Vallejo Olive Drab Surface Primer and I'll paint the pads when they are dry.

Oh that is soooooo nice :popcorn

I wish I could find a few of those comics again The Haunted tank and Sgt Rock were the ones I enjoyed as much as Superman and Batman.

I saved a bunch of my old SGT. Rock Comics. I loved The Haunted Tank, and I hope I won't be forced to build the M-41, that follows the M3 Stuart in the comics a second time!!!! :yipee :eek:ldguy :salute

Hey thanks, guys! I have the track pads painted, didn't take photos this AM. I did realize that I only ordered two .30 cal brass barrels and I really need FOUR! D'oh! Ordered two more from Lucky Model this morning, hoping they get here on the good foot! :facepalm

Thanks, guys! Not much to report here, but did manage to squeeze in the painting of the track pads.

I'll add some drybrush and wash to them and fit the tracks later this weekend, It's back to work for me today, how do two days off go by SO fast? Thanks for stopping by.

I bought a Tamiya 1/35 M3 Stuart this very day. I've also got an M-41 Walker Bulldog on hand, so it would be possible to make both of Gen'l Jeb's favored tanks, here on the sultry prairie! :yipee
I have the appropriate Flags on hand as well, and so could YOU!!
