When you go shopping around the world be careful what you order. My tale of wor started innocently enough with an email from Archer Fine Transfers. They just came out with some new flag transfers and as I am helping with a display for recce one of the flags caught my eye. It was the ISIS flag and I thought it would be good on a technical and a T-55 to show the current crisis. Well Paypal checks all of your purchases and this one twigged a response. The sale was reported to the US Treasury Department and the funds were impounded. Woody at Archer was forced to stop selling the sheet and I now have to provide a three page form in triplicate to the OFAC people explaining why I bought this. This baffled me as I'm not even an American. Not sure what other impact this will have on me at this time.
The moral is that you might make a purchase from a known or unknown vendor that is prohibited by US law and no matter where you are you may have to answer for it. I think I will go back to nice safe WWI and WWII subjects now and forget about the recce display. Needless to say I'm not a happy camper.

What utter stupidity. They can let guns be sold to drug pedlers across the Mexican border but they wont allow some modeling tools because it has a name on it :facepalm

PS maybe you should not order the Russian ICBM set Heaven knows what they will do to you for that.
 
Just makes you wonder that had you lived in the US, you might have had a official knock on the door!
Anything bought that relates to those yahoos will be investigated for sure, but goodness, it's just a decal for a plastic model people- back off!!!

Thanks for the heads up James. The fools in gov are totally paranoid with some reason, but unfortunately dumber than a box of rocks.
 
I remember seeing the email from AFT when they released those flags, and I wondered if there might be issues w/ those being sold.

I wonder if decal sheets with swasticas will get the same response?

I've seen images of some German WW1 aircraft that had a swastika painted on the side to bring the pilot good luck.

I remember too that when I was young my dad would not allow me to have a swastika on any model as long as that model was in his house. He hated the swastika for what it represented due to the nazi influence.

I think I might be okay. Got a note from PP saying the money was returned and sorry for any inconvenience. I hope that is the end of this. No matter what I will be more careful in my buying from now on.

i wonder if something like this would get someone labelled as an ISIS sympathizer and get them onto a No Fly list?

It might be 2016 but it seems more and more like 1982 by Orwell.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I would bet that you've caught the eye of your government now.
