    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

Thank you. Normally I would have started the weathering process using oil washes, but I couldn't find my oil paints so it is all done with powdered pigments with chipping and scratches done with black and white acrylics mixed to look somewhat like aluminum.

    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

After completing the tribute to SGT Russell Fant, I started working on this model again. I used DEF Models early road wheel set for the road wheels. I attached them today. I still need to weather them. Other things I have done: Removed masking tape from driver's compartment. Installed driver's...

Thanks. Hopefully I can get this completed before I get distracted by something else...oh, look, a squirrel!

Tribute to SGT Russell Fant, KIA in Vietnam 3 February 1969

Thanks, Guys. Sharon really likes it. Now I just need to figure out a way to get it to her without it getting damaged in transit.

    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

Two nights ago I painted the trim vane. In mid 1967 all of the trim vanes in the Battalion were to have a Panther painted onto them as the battalion was known as the Panthers. There were several variations and poses allowed. All of the HQ tracks whether M577s or the Commander's and S3 M113s had...

    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

I then mixed black and white paint to chip the edges of the vehicle and to create scratches on the sides. I then used pigments to weather the vehicle as if it were moving from one static position to the next site.

    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

After priming the model with black spray paint, I used a regular brush to apply Reaper's Black Green which I have found to be the best match for me for the dark OD green used during that time period. I then applied dry transfer markings, painted yellow circles, and then applied dry transfer...

    M577 HQ11 from 2d BN 47th IN (Mech) 9th ID

Several months ago, last July to be exact, I had started working on two M577s - one being made from the Tamiya kit and the other being a kit bash of AFV Club's M113A1 ACAV and the Tamiya M577 kit. The one this thread is about is the Tamiya M577. Some things that I have done to improve the kit...

Tribute to SGT Russell Fant, KIA in Vietnam 3 February 1969

This is a vignette that I made for a friend of mine, Sharon Bloszko Swift, who was the fiance of SGT Russell Fant of C Company, 2d Battalion, 47th Infantry (Mechanized), 9th Infantry Division who was Killed in Action on 3 February 1969 in Long An Province, Vietnam when his M113 hit a mine which...

Thanks, Duke. Hopefully I can knock out one or two more this year.

Thank you. This was a very enjoyable build.

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

Thank you. The cat is painted to look like one of my cats. The names are of real Soldiers but the serial numbers are made up. My friend Bill Rambow and Freddie Geremia arrived as replacements for C Company at the same time, so I thought they might get a kick out of seeing their names on the...

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

Thanks, Ski! I figured this subject would be something that so many Vets could relate to. It may be one of the reasons why I enjoyed building it so much.

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

The Sergeant Major wouldn't have it any other way. :) I hope that Platoon Sergeant discards of his cigarette butt in the butt can instead of just flicking it onto the ground. Lol

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

I am attaching the thumbnail images in no particular order. They are at various angles and some may be redundant, but someone might see something in one of them that may interest them that may not be visible in some of the other images. Thanks for looking. This was a pretty fun diorama to...

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

I completed this diorama on 6 March 2024. It took a few days to get around to getting some decent photos in my portable photo booth.

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

About 30 minutes ago I completed the figure of the Platoon Sergeant. I think he turned out fairly well. I copied the shapes and colors of the ERDL camouflage pattern from a private purchase boonie hat that I have. It is pretty darn close. I thought that since the XM177E1 was already attached to...

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

Last night while waiting for my grandson to arrive for a weekend visit I worked on the Platoon Sergeant figure a bit more. I painted the shadows and highlights of the back of the shirt, the 9th ID patch, the arms, and the black base coat for the leather parts of the boots. All that is left is...

"FNGs" Camp Bearcat, Vietnam 1967 (Completed)

This evening I painted the front of the shirt, the sleeves, nametag, US Army tape, a representation of a CIB, and the beginnings of a 9th Infantry Division patch. Something about the painting of the figures for this diorama that is out of the norm is that I haven't used any magnification...
