    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

The 1/350 USCG 52' Motor Lifeboat progresses, but slowly. The cabin details are painted with a needle.

Womping up a pair of Dory short-stacks seemed logical for Grand Banks fishing authenticity. The room mold is filled and ready, but.......... On my way to train for summer bus runs, a sound came from behind the dash of the Chevy. Airflow from the A/C slowed to a whisper. I embarrassed and...

Would it work to put fine solder or copper wire inside it to hold the bends and shape?

    Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

USS Helena just made port. The Vee Hobby 1/700 scale kit is the first mainstream injection molded kit of the Brooklyn class "rapid-fire" 6-inch light cruiser. She appears in her 1943 Battle of Kula Gulf fit, as she was sunk by Japanese torpedoes during this July night engagement. The 40mm...

    Nice photos.

One of my many TLAR projects is a J-1 Standard conversion cowling for the old Lindberg 1/48 Curtiss Jenny kit. The wingtips can be shaped without much fuss, and the Waldo decal proofs are done. "The IT Girl of the Sky"? That's another matter entirely.

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

The two cute, little closed chocks on the stern clean out nicely using the .03mm carbide drill bit very gently. Them things snap clean off with even a teeny amount of flexing. Clear 4x6 decal graphics fit the model, so I got that going for me. Instructions progress as the build does...

I'm still holding out for a Curtiss J-1 Standard.

    ICM Hampden "Churchill's Suitcase"

Mmm. Quite so, yes. At very least, one has a bucket of warm piss to dump on Jerry's heads as one wobbles by.

    ICM Hampden "Churchill's Suitcase"

Yes, the pilot's seat folded backwards so that an observer could rescue a wounded pilot in flight and take over, if need be. Model makers in UK rave about this new ICM kit! It's a far cry from the awful 1/48 Spitfire kits they issued initially. I hope for a new-tool 1/72 scale Hampden kit.

After just 5 years, the 1/700 scale waterline hull of the 1921 Canadian schooner Bluenose is finally ready to go to mold with her optional SV Lucretia windlass/winch bits and hard over lower hull shim. Quite a few techniques were learned during this time, but she is my first wood deck...

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

A test fit of the bridge to the hull looks VERY promising! The Surfman's award is painted in Tamiya LP-48 super shining silver and the results are dandy! A happy accident happens when you mask the 52's waterline. I started with 4mm tape, and then went around with 6mm Tamiya tape. in this...

    1/350 USCG SPC-HWX 52-Foot Motor Lifeboat kit #126

The Game is afoot! For those of you building a full hull model, I drill the struts with a .03mm carbide bit. The idea is to drill on thru to the hull and make sockets for the .008 copper shaft to fit in ahead of the struts for the propeller shafts, like this, see?! I ordered more .03mm...

2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

Didn't they! Dave's gramma was named Geraldine. She recently passed away, and Big Dave revered her as the strongest woman he ever knew. NO! Not quite like this. Anyway, this is where little Londyn's middle name came from.

Dear Ol' Stan came by. He reminded me I had an old waterline scale project I needed to work on. It had been 5 years since I started her. 1/700 Bluenose deserved some attention. I made a lower hull shaped "shim", if you will. This can be added to the starboard underside to raise the bow...

2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

18 June 2026 Surgeons club meeting! It was fine to see Curt Young, after a long hiatus! We saw him at the pet store and at Hobbytown both! I didn't do a very good job of recording members in attendance this time. Mark Johnson and Francisco are omitted completely. Seen here are Carlton...
