    Kotare Spitfire

I doubt its clogging in the tubes, its more likely drying in the tip. A retarder will help the drying but also, thinner paint will allow lower pressure so the thinner paint has more thinners and the lower pressure reduces airflow over the paint on the tip, both of which will reduce the tendency...

The earliest spit i have in my photos is P7350 Which is a Mk IIa, i just post this because it really shows how much smaller they were than the later common MkIX Out of interest this was taken at the Dunsfold airfield, some will know it as the BBC Top Gear test track but it was actually the...

While still banging on about original wear and tear i have come across the answer to my original question. Although this is obviously not in far east colours, this is the Spitfire Mk1a preserved in its original war time colours with wear and tear. Seen here in the Imperial war Museum in London...

    Italeri Manx Norton 1/9 FINISHED

Once again this wound up very quickly as i had quite a few sub assemblies and they come together to complete a model in a couple of hours. I think Its a nice kit. It offers endless chance to improve if thats your bag but i can also understand how if you built OTB you would be a bit...

    Mini rant and a yahoo.

"I may get a couple brands and check them out." yea i think this is the problem and its an expensive way to go. Bottom line is its a very personal choice and the suck it and see route may be the only way to go. I had a lot of reviews and comments on the Infocraftsman lathe but i had to buy it...

I dont know whether you problem is Badgers fault of the distributor or what but i would be inclined to blame badger if you find other people have similar problems as you. If not its bad luck. I have never had a problem with badger but my Pausche was a nightmare, others swear by Pausche...

    Kotare Spitfire

As a rule of thumb i would think Roundels with black and white for the Battle of Britain but not earlier so early to mid 1940 ish until the Sky scheme. EDIT looks like they had gone to sky and black by the time they added roundels. note yellow ring round roundel on black side nothing is ever...

    Kotare Spitfire

Never all white Bob but black and white up to 1940 when they went to duck egg blue/Sky , that said some sky aircraft then had the black retrospectively applied from 40 to 41so you could use Sky and black but not really on a Mk1. The black and white was an aircraft recognition thing from about...

What started you model building/painting and how old were you?

Its hard to explain the effect of the war on England and kids like me born just 14 years after it finished and living in Surrey in the south east of England in Battle of Britain country. The pilots were hero's and those that survived were still only in their mid 30s so still flying but now as...

Absolutely no idea how to do text in photos, i remember first seeing it with that graphic artist guy over your side of the pond who used to super detail his aircraft. I forget his name now but a huge shame he disapeared as he was truly inspirational, Chuck was it ?.

I like to post problems i come across as i think it makes the posts more interesting and promotes a response. In reality we all have the same problems with detail and decals and paint but we will gloss over that :-) i was thinking the other day about Bobs emoji about a thread is worthless...

    Italeri Manx Norton 1/9 FINISHED

Agree Paul, thats why i am doing the tank now, i wanted to get the gloss coat on before i get on with other bits. Its a funny little model, OTB everything is crooked or has a problem but they are mostly easy fixes but there is a lot of work for such a simple kit.

Is this guy the ultimate scratch builder ?

Hi Bob Yes , the curators asked for it to be left in bare metal so it would be seen as a "Spitfire" and not a memorial to any one sqn or aircraft. https://www.warbirdsinmyworkshop.net/spitfire-mki-a-home-at-hendon

A quick update The rear shocks are on, i remade the lower shiny bit but i only had 5mm alloy and 5.5mm would have been better. I also made a new bevel tube taking the valve drive up to the head as its easy to do. I have covered the seat in MFH sticky back vinyl leather look. I think my...
