    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

I settled on a mix of PE and cloth straps in what turned out to be a salvage mission. The straps are not technically correct but look the part and i already find this build a bit of a mission ;-) This is as far as i can go with the cockpit what i am learning is i much prefer larger scales...

In fairness to Humbrol i think its a case of what you usually spray so what you are used to ? Humbrol is about as far away from something like MRP as you could get but i get great results from MRP, I know you cant thin it and will need 6 coats to get a cover which would blow the mind of a...

    Auction

These auctions are a monthly occurrence here but i thought by way of a change and a bit of fun i would post this one as it has some US stuff. You can scroll through the lots after you have clicked on one item with the next lot button top right. Note the Camo Pyjamas made from a US silk...

    Panel lines

I used a gloss clear coat first. Cant see how to get it any glossier :) I didnt post this because its no good but its pretty glossy, i just wondered if there was a tick to it like getting MicroSol to spread by adding a little dish washer liquid.

    Panel lines

Are there any tips for using panel line paints ? I have some Mig paints , what they PLW panel line wash. In the videos the guy touches the panel line with this stuff and it pings round the panel line almost instantly. I have tried everything and it just sits in a blob, with my latest project i...

I like where you are going with this Bob, the feathered edges with the lighter highlights really works. (y)

    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

Yea i agree its straight out of an F16 :) The problem was the Decals are reverse printed so its not until you slide them off that you see what colour they are. While i have loads of airscale decals i could use they dont work on this method where the glue is on the picture side so they stick to...

    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

Blimey this is a lot harder than i remember , what looks ok on the bench looks awful blown up in a picture it will blend in with some weathering i hope later on.. I very nearly went for an after market IP but i am a bit defeated now by this scale knowing it will never be seen. Rather like...

    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

Paul The MkVIII was interesting, Jeffrey Quill thought the 8 was the nicest of all Spitfires to fly but it was designed as a new aircraft, Stronger with hard points, retractable tail wheel, larger tanks so greater range and built with the middle east in mind so hot and dusty conditions. It was...

    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

Italeri supply huge boxes with 2 or 3 trees usually lost in the vast expanse of the box, Tamiya on the other hand know that space is at a premium in Japan and especially in boxes. Somewhere in a small village in Japan lives an old lady who packs The Tamiya Spitfires. She is known as the lady of...

    Back in the hobby

Ha ha yes i have been trying to buy some Alclad brass for some time. I actually tried again today. Its now called Mig A stand in the UK and no one has it, i searched google and its just not stocked. A few other colours are available, but not brass.... The shame of it is when it was alclad it...

    Back in the hobby

Welcome along Chewie , i agree with the "hobby has changed " bit especially with paints. Gone are the days of Tamiya and Humbrol :-)...that said i still think you have to go a long way to beat Tamiya. but then, i am old school and haven't really tried many others. :)

    Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX (1/32)

Here we go again and a massive departure for me from recent builds. This is often described as the greatest kit ever produced but I suspect most would beg to differ. Nearly 400 parts on 22 trees +clear and 2 PE sheets make for a pretty comprehensive model definitely not aimed at the beginner...
