Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

It's a shame as I'm heavily invested in Vallejo supply. But the difference is night and day. I can even leave the Tamiya in the cup, while I take the dogs out and return to spraying. Could never do that with the Vallejo. I'm not bashing a product just saying it just doesn't work for me. It's not...

    IMPS/USA Jan 2026.

Short notice as I just found out myself. The Chattanooga Modelcon show is this weekend. I won't be going as it's at the Convention center along with the World of Wheels car show. Parking would be a hard thing to find. Also we're supposed to have heavy duty storms here Fri & Sat., the kind that...

Das Werk SdKfz 251/1 Ausf D in 1/16th scale

    Looks amazing Paul!

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

More base color on. I finally had to give up on the Vellajo paint and sprayed on some Tamiya XF-60. The Tamiya sprays out super smooth, doesn't build up on the tip of the air brush needle, doesn't clog, doesn't spit chunks of dry paint and its a breeze to clean the air brush. All this time I...

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

Would a crew have bothered to take the tools, spare tracks, tow cables etc. off to paint their tank in the field?

First layer of color on the turret.

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

Still have details (boxs, buckets and tarps) to build for the engine deck, but the basic parts ready for color. I want to go with the Dunkelgelb applied in the field over the German grey look.

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

I'm looking at that Das Werk seated commander. Trying to figure out if there is a spot on the turret he would look natural in that pose. I've been burnt twice with crap recast resin knock offs so far on this build. 3D prints are too expensive so plastic is my next option.

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

Let's get some paint on. I used Tamiya fine grey primer and Vallejo Dunkelgrau as the pre shade intsead of black. The finished color will be Dunkelgelb. It took several hrs just to get the pre shade on the hull and turret...BIG model.

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

Well, the other figure I ordered came today and it's as bad as the commander 😤

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

He's pretty bad around the head and shoulder area with air bubbles. Plus the details aren't very crisp. Idk, I may try to do something. The Sol figure that this is a recast of goes for around $50. I can't justify that.

2026 - What are you scale modeling plans?

Not looking at doing any new kits. I'm going to concentrate on building dioramas for the Panzer I Ausf A, the Renault Ft, as well as the Panzer III and getting them under glass.

It's to bad this figure is cast so bad. I like the pose.

Finally...history told in a way even I can understand!

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

Chain with grapple style hooks. Had to have something to keep the tow cable in place.

Panzer III Ausf J. Das Werks, 1/16 scale.

There's so much that can be added. And at this scale on the P III I see many things that should be done. I'm realizing that I could get away with a Commander that is not necessarily in the cupola.

    2025 Year End Review

I've watched it. Very interesting and shows how much brute force, heat and hard work it takes to restore these tanks.
