Non-Military Figure and Busts that I made for my wife

Thanks, Brother. Painting something colorful is a nice break from the greens and browns.

Non-Military Figure and Busts that I made for my wife

It sure is. I am a lot better at choosing figures and busts that she would like than choosing other types of gifts.

Non-Military Figure and Busts that I made for my wife

Thanks. That is why I chose that one for an Anniversary present. She really liked it.

    COL Hal Moore Bust

Thank you. I have been trying to knock out as much as I can this month as next month will be pretty busy.

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

Thank you. Rather than layering which would increase the bulk, I just sculpted in specific items to reduce a bulking effect. If the bust hadn't already had the appropriate amount if bulk to it, I probably would have sculpted the full shirt.

Bust of 9th Infantry Division Staff Officer

Like the bust of the Scout, QuickGen paints were applied over the primer and Ultra Matte Varnish. Then I painted the face and applied the initial coat of the base color for the shirt. Then I started to shade and highlight the front of the uniform along with the left sleeve. Color...

Bust of 9th Infantry Division Staff Officer

I am converting the bust of LTC Kilgore from Apocalypse Now into a Staff Officer from the 9th Infantry Division from when the Division Headquarters arrived in Vietnam in December 1966. The additions I made were the addition of strips for Airborne wings and a CIB above his name tape, a 9th ID...

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

The light green in the pattern seemed a bit too bright, so as a final touch I applied QuickGen US Uniform Green to the shirt to tone it down. Once that dried, I lightly dry brushed Vallejo Khaki across the raised parts He still needs to be attached to a base, but other than that, I am calling...

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

I painted the head first using a combination of AK Interactive's QuickGen and Gen3 acrylics as well as Reaper Sunburn Flesh. Since the Scout Platoon were issued ERDL camouflage jungle fatigues on several occasions, I thought it would make the bust a bit more interesting if I painted it in...

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

Here is the CPT Willard bust with the various details I sculpted for the conversion. I primed the busts with Tamiya Ultra Fine Primer, then applied a coat of AK Interactive's Ultra Matte Varnish to give the QuickGen paint something to bite into. Then I applied several coats of QuickGen...

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

Since I was going to convert all three busts, I worked on them simultaneously as I had to sculpt in smaller sections in order to avoid messing them up. This was the first step of me transforming Animal Mother from a Marine to a 9th Infantry Division M60 gunner and CPT Willard into a member of...

Bust of a member of Scout PLT, HHC, 2-47 IN, 9th ID

While I was working on the bust of the 9th Infantry Division Rifleman, I found that not only was I enjoying converting and painting bust, but I could assemble several in a project covering the years that the 9th Infantry Division served in Vietnam. But what busts could I use? I remembered that...

Non-Military Figure and Busts that I made for my wife

Here is a bust that I painted for my wife for our Anniversary back in December. This is a figure of Empress Josephine that was for Christmas. This bust was for her birthday. She has amassed quite a collection over the years that she enjoys looking at. Thanks for looking. Cheers, James

    COL Hal Moore Bust

This is my rendition of the bust. First I used AK Interactive QuickGen paints mixed with Ultra Matte Varnish to lay a baseline for the shadows and highlights. I then used various acrylics to paint the bust. I think he turned out nicely. Thanks for looking. Cheers, James

    COL Hal Moore Bust

A couple of years ago I bought a bust depicting COL Hal Moore when he was a Brigade Commander in the 1st Cavalry Division in Viatnam shortly after he led his battalion during the Battle at LZ X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam. It was made by Dolman Miniatures and the sculptor did a really...

    9th Infantry Division Grunt Bust

Here is the completed bust. I think he turned out pretty nice. Eventually he will be based with other busts representing other Soldiers from the 9th Infantry Division. Thanks for looking. Cheers, James

    9th Infantry Division Grunt Bust

I had to wait a while for the Young Miniatures Navy SEAL bust to get this boonie hat for this bust. I copied the ERDL camouflage pattern from one of my boonie hats. I think it turned out fairly decent.

    9th Infantry Division Grunt Bust

With the QuickGen paints, primer alone is not enough to get the QuickGen paints to get enough of a bite to gather in places where you intend for them to go. The Ultra Matte varnish gives the surface more bite for the formulation that the QuickGen are made of to work.

    9th Infantry Division Grunt Bust

For the stamping on the second pocket of the bandoleer, I first tried using an Ultra Fine Tip Sharpie marker, but the tip was still too wide. I painted over that mistake. When that failed, I thought perhaps I could apply some dry transfers like I do for vehicle markings. I had some that were the...

    9th Infantry Division Grunt Bust

Here I have painted the suspenders minus the tape that was applied to some of the buckles as well as the bandoleer minus the stamping on the second pocket. I glued the head on. I painted the name and US ARMY tags and the 9th Infantry Division patch.
