hmmm First mistake :) I was happily assembling things when i realised i was going down a blind alley... The car seems to have a space frame with fibreglass's infills. Its hard to know if the frame is moulded into the body which would make sense for strength but a nightmare to repair damage...

Yea you can actually see that effect on the top of the gearbox on the real thing picture above. A dark wash on the natural metal finish will be in order as well later to pick out nuts and bolts..

What i am doing is not strictly correct. If you do everything black you really loser the detail especially in the confined space of an engine bay so i have done the basic block and gearbox black but i will pick out detail with natural metal parts to add contrast Anyway i have made a start this...

Well said Paul, 100% agree, this is my hobby and rather than spend £50 a month on the gym or £150 a month on golf course i think this is the place to be :-)
