1/350 US Coast Guard Island class 110' Cutter. TLAR Models #425

Over here instruction downloads are the norm now. One of the many many problems of the EU is they have about 20 different languages so you would be printing books not leaflets without downloads.

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

The WLA as i said is a military version and has cut down mudguards but it looks like they are the originals cut down and not some different style So.............. . i just had to see if it could be put right. Bit worrying because i would probably wreck the mudguards i have trying and then i...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

Thanks for that paul :) My problem here was each spoke hole is angled either left or right and also outward as the hub is wider then the rim if you see what i mean. The nipple needs to point in the direction of its hub fixing exactly or the spoke exits the nipple then bends to its destination...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

Wheel paint seems pretty hard now, i forgot it seems to be hard much quicker on plastic having been working with white metal for a while. I have made a crude jig which is just some 2mm plastic sheet with a 2mm nut sunk into it so i can use a 2mm srcew to hold the hub and stop it turning. I...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

I got the paint on the rims and hubs and will now put these to one side for the paint to really harden. I haven't ever painted these before lacing up and any damage later will be really hard to patch up.

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

like all these things, when you need one they are invaluable. We had a variety of them in the tool shop at work and i probably used them 5-6 times in 35 years but when i needed one, nothing else would do the job. I never heard back from that micro lathe company about screw cutting pitch or...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

The better ones have a machined base and also one side so you can clamp it to the table either vertical or horizontal which is what you would want for drilling these hubs.. I can see a lathe and a drill of vertical mill would make making your own hubs and drilling them for spokes would be a...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

What you really need on a drill is an "indexing head" which is basically a circular chuck like a lather chuck mounted on a 360 degree protractor so you can revolve the work held in the chuck a precise amount and read its position on the protractor like this...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

So after a nervous bit of drilling (there is no second chance) and some time with a pair of dividers.... i have 6 parts with 160 0.5mm holes (1mm in the rim to allow for spoke nipples) I forgot to mention why i am doing it this way. If you paint the rims and spokes silver or black as i...

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

No , you can buy Generic resin rims but the hubs are what they are...anyway that sort of defeats the challenge. 🤣

    Harley 750 WLA FINISHED

As I have already mentioned elsewhere my next plan is to do a civilian take on Italeri’s 1/9 Harley WLA motorcycle from the late 1930’s The kit depicts a military version and while it differs quite a lot from the civy version that’s mostly extra parts rather than missing parts. The big...

    MFH Abarth 1000-SP 1/12 FINISHED

Hi Boogie, i plan to build a civilian version of Italeri' s Harley WMA despatch bike from 1942. I tried before to build ythe military version but made a bit of a mess of the wheels ending up with half 1mm plastic spokes and half .4mm metal : 🤣 I think i can convert this kit into a civilian...

    MFH Abarth 1000-SP 1/12 FINISHED

I did do the panels together but had to re do the back using a filler primer. I did use a grey primer on top like the other panels to try and keep the base colour correct. It was a fun Build Bob, it had its difficulties but as you say, even they were fun to solve. Maybe had i not solved them...

    MFH Abarth 1000-SP 1/12 FINISHED

Well that was a lot easier than it could have been :) Its not perfect but i am very pleased with it as a first attempt. its basically OTB but would benefit from a little added detail with the wiring and plumbing. You Gotta learn to walk before you can run. This car was easier than the bikes...
