"GI! GI! You Buy!" Vietnam 1967

Thanks, guys. The girl is selling what is supposed to be pineapple on a stick. Kind of looks like popsicles, though. Not sure if those were sold like that back then.

"GI! GI! You Buy!" Vietnam 1967

Last night I completed the second vignette/diorama for my "Shopping in Long Thanh" diorama series. It is a fairly simple vignette but I think it turned out well. The American Soldier is a Bravo 6 conversion and the Vietnamese girl is from Paracel Miniatures. The M113 "wedgie" that is being...

    Frontierswoman Protecting the Homestead 1880s

Thanks, Guys. This vignette seems to be pretty popular at the various places I have posted it. One guy suggested something that I hadn't thought of, adding an arrow or tomahawk stuck in the wall to give a hint of the danger being faced. If I end up bringing this to a show, I just might have...

    Frontierswoman Protecting the Homestead 1880s

I started this project on New Year's Day and completed it last night in time for my wife's birthday which was today. The figures are from Masterbox which for injection molded figures were pretty decent. I did not modify them in any way, which is rare for me, but I thought they told a good story...

101st AIRBORNE AT CARENTAN, JUNE 1944

You did a really good job on the outhouse, Ski. Is there a floater in the bucket? Although gross to some audiences, that would be a realistic touch not commonly found in other scenes I have seen of outhouses.

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

After trying out various background colors and light sources in my pop up photo booth, I found the grey background works the best. Here are some better photos. Some may seem like duplicates but for those that do, focus on objects or figures in those photos are a bit different.

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

Thanks. I was originally going to have two more figures, but they made the base too crowded and didn't really contribute to the story line, so I just went with what is in the final version You're welcome about the money clarification. I wouldn't have known much about that if my dad hadn't been...

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

With the exception of the title plate, this part of the "Shopping in Long Thanh" series is complete. COL Brice Barnes who is the central character in this scene really likes it, so if he likes it, that means I must have done a decent job depicting this event. His liking it means more than any...

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

Got quite a bit done today in preparation for the completion of this diorama. Instead of mounting the structure to the wooden base and trying to add figures and accessories then, I decided to add the figures and accessories that are going to be on the porch first because if I were to mount the...

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

Here are some photos of the display counter for the bakery with the accessories installed. I made it out of sheet styrene (both white and clear) and some L shaped styrene strips. The various types of bread are made of Magic Sculpt. The plates of fillings are from Reality in Scale. Tomorrow I...

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

I have been refining the composition and the positioning of figures for this diorama since I can try to get it completed soon. As I am gathering, painting, and making the accessories that will be placed in this diorama, I have found that there just won't be enough space to include all of the...

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

Being that our Soldiers were paid in MPC's you would think that would be the case, but MPC's were mainly to be used for utilizing AAFES approved vendors. Depending on where one was stationed or was operating in Vietnam, some vendors and businesses outside of US bases would accept MPC if they had...

I have been out of sorts.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

"Shopping in Long Thanh" remake first vignette COMPLETED

I just completed the figure of 1LT Brice Barnes with the exception of the light weathering that I will apply before mounting him to the base. He is buying baguettes to go along with some venison sausage his dad had sent him. The Vietnamese money is from ETA Diorama Accessories.

Hopefully I wouldn't jack it up. That would be interesting to try out one of these days...and I do have the Scale 75 Black and White paint set...

Thanks, Ski! Hopefully I can get the momentum going so I can get this diorama done so I can start on another.
