    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Thanks folks, I'm sitting at the bench as I type, I'm putting the conversion pieces into the A6M2 fuselage. (There are 5, all for the tail) QUICK TIP; want to avoid the carpet monster? Use a small clear plasti bowl (I think this was in a package with lightbulb or something similar.) all...

Is x-20 their lacquer? I use that, it's thin, but it dries fast, so you hae lots of time to get the paint and staining where you wanted. For more shading just spot apply.

Thanks guys! Smoke is just one of Tamiya's regular clear paints, I thin it the same way I do with every Tamiya paint [about 60/40 paint to Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner.] It's a clear paint so you don't need to thin it extensively like you would a black or other opaque colour.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

It's the idiots tool for perfect interiors, engines, gear bays. It naturally adds shadows. Just one more tool for your enormous arsenal. I don't really know where to start with the jig - aside from copying the angles of the beaching trolley, past that point I'm a little lost. I'm not sure...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Thanks guys, the project continues Sorry for the delay folks, the work was done and the photos were taken - it was just a hectic weekend. The cockpits are finally - and officially complete and assembled! First, in the spirit of keeping this a SBS build blog, the technique - 1) - As...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

A very quick sneak peak of this weekends coming update.... The cockpits are done! Tons of new techniques tried here, most of which I have learned from your friend and mine, ChukW. Yes, yes, I know about the seam on the lightbox on the top of the sidewall, I left it there because it...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Don't worry folks, I'm not sulking; I have finished the cockpits, I just have to seal them and take photos. There wasn't much to see during the intermediate steps.

Doubtful, they're actually a fabric/cloth they'll settle in time, but I can't anneal them like you would with photoetch.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

A very tiny update - this was the hold up for the cockpit completion, I had to wait for the second set of belts. They are a pain to assemble, but worth the time and effort. **Because they are real cloth belts, The tools are holding them in a relatively natural position to help them settle...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Nah, not quite - anyone can make a decent photoetch buckle, all the real credit goes to HGW.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Here are some poor cellphone photos I took of assembling the first set of belts. The straps themselves are laser cut and are a cloth, not paper. Even the holes for the belts are already cut and removed. You can see the photoetch fret, the belt buckles have prongs which physically go through...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Wow, the second set of HGW harnesses made it to Canada from the Czech Republic in under two weeks. Which is good because I couldn't really proceed with the build until I get the harness built (which will take another full night) and installed, so that I can weather the cockpit. :captain

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Good luck, I had two of those bulkheads to do, What you see there is literally the last of that wire. I think it came from a plug for a broken appliance or light. I just happened to find it on the corner of my desk that I put my wires, I don't remember when I stripped it out of the cord...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Thanks guys. I'm much less worried now that I have a plan in place - cutting that wing apart was always going to be the hardest part - Things should really start to speed up now. I just have to figure out the rest of the assembly sequence - This kit is odd, you close up the fuselage before you...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Just like the cat - I'm back. The cockpits are assembled, they're just waiting on a wash - which I can't do until my second set of HGW harnesses arrives. When I built the P-51, the single set had enough parts for two planes. Not the set for the Zero... It took me a whole night in front of...
