    I think I'm turning Japanese...

Thanks Bob! What I did was use jagged shaped small pieces of Tamiya tape combined with using damp salt to mask off the metal areas from the green paint. It works okay on this small scale Dinah trainer but this technique would produce stunning effects on a larger scale model. Matrixone

    I think I'm turning Japanese...

Thanks guys! :thumbsup Gary, Not sure about your question about the pre-shade, the Dinah trainer has had no pre-shading on it...yet. Here are the results of the tape/damp salt to add the paint chip effects. I liked how this turned out but sadly there was just too much metal showing for...

    I think I'm turning Japanese...

Thanks for looking guys! Here is an in-progress look at how I will be doing the paint chipping on the Dinah trainer. Now that the metall paint has dried for a number of days I am using bits and pieces of Tamiya tape to cover various parts of the airframe, some of the tape was cut in a jagged...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Thanks! Here are some pictures of the K-4 after much of the painting is done on it. Two shots of the rear fuselage, the fin and rudder have different styles of camouflage because I wanted it to look like the rudder was a replacement after the original was damaged from combat. It is not...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

The dark green color was sprayed on a few hours ago...I did add the highlights to the green paint just like I did with the RLM 75 but instead of adding white to the paint to lighten it I used a pale tan to the green paint for the highlights, the tan works better for fading green than white...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks Tankbuilder, Bob, and Luiz! Tanbuilder, I may install the tank commander figure at a later date, getting this thing built first is #1 on my list...armor models are out of my comfort zone and I will feel better about it after its finished and maybe then I will attempt to add the figure...

    I think I'm turning Japanese...

Thanks Luiz! More work on the Dinah trainer...a coat of gloss black was airbrushed on followed by a patchy coat of dull metall. This model will have the usual scheme of dark green over pale gray that many Ki-46 aircraft wore but this model will get massive amounts of paint chipping done to it...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Thanks for waiting Mr. Maddog! The start of the upper surface painting on the K-4, a thin base coat of RLM 75 was followed by some white highlights. Next will be a highly thinned coat of the RLM 75 base color sprayed on to tone down the highlights. I will do the exact same thing with the white...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks again Tankbuilder. I did try and squeeze the tank commander into the opening a week ago but I was concerned something on the tank could break so I scrapped the idea of using the figure. An attempt at wearing off some of the green and brown paint in the places where the crew might scuff...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thank you iambrb and Tankbuilder! Tankbuilder, Thanks so much for the offer of sending me those figures, I better not accept since I have so many things on the go at this time and am not sure when I might get around to painting them. No in-progress pictures now, yesterday was way too nice to...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks guys! Tankbuilder, I already gave up hope of using the tank commander with this model, instead he will be used as figure painting practice. For a while I have wanted to try painting a figure (other than Aurora Famous monsters) and this is all I have to work with at the moment. Some...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks for the words of encouragement! :notworthy: I just painted the rest of the camouflage colors on the Panther, as can be seen I chose a hybrid camouflage pattern of the disc and ambush schemes which shall be called 'discbush'. :facepalm The tank commander is still trying to...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Thanks for the comments! It will be easier (and cheaper) to just go a little heavier with the weathering done with oil paints. My first choice is using the airbrush mainly because the paint from it does not come off as easily as oil paints do, oil paints take much longer to fully dry. No...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

I don't have much reading material on the Panther in my library but some of the things that I have read about it said the design of the road wheels was not the best...they were difficult to work on and sadly for the Germans the road wheels (or the bolts) would break quite often leaving the tank...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks guys! After looking at the road wheels more closely sure enough the diameters of the holes ARE different. I had intended to at least get a coat of dark yellow sprayed on this model but after washing off the dust and fingerprints from the road wheels last night with dish soap some water...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Thank you Christian! The goof on the leading edge of the wing was fixed with super glue and sanded down, then a few areas of pre-shading with black paint was added under the engine cowling and on parts of the lower fuselage before spraying on RLM 76 to tone it all down. This all went pretty...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Thanks guys! Thanks to the test spraying and adding white highlights I found a problem... ...I am not too happy about this goof but its WAY better to find it now instead of finding after the camouflage paint has been sprayed on. :oldguy I wanted to include this image in my post yesterday...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Thanks guys. Practice painting should not be overlooked, muscle memory in operating an airbrush is all important and will eliminate painting mistakes a great deal. In my case after painting so many winged things over the years its easy for me to do but painting armor subjects is not...no, the...

    1/48 scale Bf 109's x 2

Some painting on the big 109 was done, today's session was simple highlights sprayed on with flat white paint, pale RLM 76 will be sprayed on next but not before some gloss black on a few places under the engine cowl. This model will be different than most of my other 109's and I will allow a...

    1/35 scale Tamiya Panther

Glad you liked my tools! Some pictures after some practice painting on it. For a short time I was thinking of doing a scheme of dark yellow over painted with the washable winter white paint on this model but since this will be more of a what-if type the disc scheme will be used...
