Put a silly cheap bid in on a Pocher alfa today at an online Auction Its ready built but i thought i could de construct it and see what all the fuss is about rather than shell out on an unbuilt one for silly money. See what happens Thursday

Front suspension was a bit of a nightmare as me being me didnt read the instructions :) Who knew there were so many ways of putting it together ? Glad i decided to do a practice run before the Meng Maclaren as i ordered a few parts from spot model and i am finding them quite difficult to use...

I suppose its something we should all try and its unfair of me to really comment as i have without having even seen one of these kits. If some one want to donate a Meng GT40 and a Pocher GT40 i will make a mess of both and report back :-)

Probably what i should have done is just flat coat the plastic finish and dry brush it like this ?

So back to that cockpit tub...... It is actually a welded and riveted Aluminium construction but how do you make it look like one ? well you can spray it with MRP white aluminium over white primer....and then it looks like it did before with silver paint on it :) So back to the drawing...

Well the exhaust was a pleasant surprise. Everything was stacked against it TBH but the fit is very good . the problem is, if it is a problem, the 35 parts need to be assembled on the engine because the engine is the jig and once you have done that its very difficult to fill seams/joints and...

so here we are now I have to say this is an absolute joy to build so far, its everything i would expect in terms of fit and detail and quality of molding today let alone 50 years ago. No longer can i put off the exhaust assembly :-)

Having watched the superb series on UK TV that followed Airfix over several months i suspect that Paul is right. The modern way of producing a new model is with had held scanners and for that you need a good example to scan ( and permission) or you need subjects like the star ship enterprise...

Something i am finding with cars is, most of the after market is for motorcycles, ie: the huge 1/12 Tamiya motorcycle range and these parts are sold as 1/12. fair enough but stuff for cars is much bigger so for example banjo bolts and bleed nipples on a car are usually M10 or M12...but on a bike...

Yea i know what you mean but this stuff is 0.7mm which x12 , is 8.4mm true size and that exactly what i sell for motorcycles. The fuel pipe is 1mm so 12mm in real life and again thats standard on a Ducati May be they made the engine too small :-)

I did some plumbing today, electrical and fuel but strangely it didnt really look right. I checked the plug lead dia and the fuel pipe dia in 1/12 scale and they are spot on. It was only after i took a picture i realised its the red sleeving ;) It would look OK in the back of a 1/1 radio but its...
