The Takom Leopard was first released in combination with the Faun SLT56 Transporter (5011). As kitted, it represents one of 20 Leopard 2 A6's upgraded to the A7 standard as introduced into service with the German Army in December 2014. The upgrades can be applied to the A4, A5 and A6 variants of the Leopard.
The major components, turret and upper and lower hulls, are one piece castings.
The turret has fine raised and undercut details, weld seams and anti-skid texture.
The upper hull has intricate details moulded into the single piece including the side skirts, equipment and details that are often included as separate parts that increase the complexity of assembly. The crispness of the moulding should mean a no fuss build.
The inside of the upper hull has some pour stubs to be removed to allow the lower hull to sit correctly.
The detailed moulding continues with the lower hull that includes the added belly armour and fine details and attachment points for the suspension system.
There are 2 pieces of sprue K included, each including the link and length track and running gear details for each side. There are some mould marks on the tracks that will likely require some attention. The same high level of details continues on the road wheels, driver sprocket and idler. The sprue connections are large so careful trimming and cleanup will be needed.
Sprue L provides the remainder of the plastic parts to complete the build. Here will be found the one piece gun barrel with a separate muzzle, rear hull panel, turret mounted MG3 and the various other fittings.
The decal sheet and PE fret are reduced to include only the Leopard related items for this release. The decals allow you to make a vehicle on display at the Paris Eurosatory Show in June 2014 with the row of flags of Leopard operators on the gun barrel or a vehicle belonging to Panzerlehrbattaillon 93 based in Muenster. There is a short length of copper wire included to make the tow cables. New to this boxing is the bonus camouflage pattern masking sheet. How useful it will be over the molded on detail is unknown and unfortunately there is no placement guide included.
The quality and detail of the moulding is very good with minimal seam lines or flash. Hopefully the fit is just as good.
