Osprey publishing has released yet another Tank vs Tank book. This one written by world renowned military author Steven J. Zaloga. This particular book steps into the "forgotten war" the Korean War. It examines the battle of the WW II proven T-34/85 & the later arriving on the scene American M26 Pershing.

Overview
Mr. Zaloga states upfront that this is not a Tank vs Tank analysis, as much as it is a side by side comparison of the Armor that was brought to bear in the Korean War. As a Tank on Tank comparison it is generally unfair, as the M26 wields a 90mm main gun & the T-34 only an 85mm gun. This book is very well written and is very easy on the reader without a lot of military jargon. This book is loaded with period photographs of the M26, in both the Army & Marine versions, maps, charts, & has similar coverage of the T-34/85. The research goes as far as to note that the NKPA's T-34's are from the batch of late '45 supplied to them by the U.S.S.R.
It's all in here. From the different types of ammo that was used, the training of the crews, to battle field deployment of each tank. Mr. Zaloga does note that there is an even better comparison to the U.S. M4A3E8 vs. the T-34/85. Cut away illustrations of both the T-34 & Pershing turrets are included, as well as period photos of their interiors. He even breaks down the combat effectiveness of each Tank, strengths & weaknesses. There are a few war stories that keep the reader engrossed and wanting more. This latest release by Steve Zaloga leaves no stone unturned in this all but forgotten Tank battle that pitted The two Cold War Super Powers' most recent Armor offerings that had it's legs in the end of WW II & brought to a face to face confrontation in a little, at then, Unknown part of the World.
