I have always wanted to build this ugly bugger' a MiG-27K:
Enter Cold War Studio with their conversion for the 1/48th scale kit, item CWS49011:
Inside, we see a departure from previous releases where the dropped nose was separate from the cockpit sides. Now, the nose and cockpit sides are one half... This allowed for detailing the inside of the nose.
The light color of the resin played havoc on my camera's autofocus but you can see the nose interior in the background half.
Some may think the panel lines are heavy. This is intentional to match Trumpeter's panel lines.
The resin is very slick and my tape didn't grab but here you can see the Trumpeter nose bulging above the conversion nose...
In this view, you can see the higher placement of the cockpit as well as the taller hump behind it.
The rest of the resin pieces seem to be the same from the previous releases with the addition of new cockpit sides, different instrument panel coaming, and redone nose gear doors.
This shows Stenka pays attention to reviews as it was a negative in my previous look at his MiG-27 conversions. Look at this new gear door, the reworked hinges and bulge...
Compared to the earlier release. This is NOT the one included, once more, this is from the earlier Cold War Studio MiG-27 conversions (mud guard on right is not in the latest release):
Clear resin canopies and weapon apertures.
Very clear and bubble free:
These containers for the 3D printed parts remind me of pastry trays I had in Slovakia but one is labeled MiG-27K and the nearer one is a PREVIEW of an upcoming set (CWS68029) of intake and fuselage pylons for the ground attack Floggers.
The PREVIEW of the upcoming set, CWS48029, of intake and fuselage pylons which include detailed sway braces.
The second container had the MiG-27K specific items which are included in the conversion but then it also include probes which are finer than previous releases and spares ARE included! Also note the vacuum-formed domes!
A full set of masks and mirrors are included!
As well as a PE fret, two (one spare) instrument panel dial film, and paper seat belts. The latter does work but is a bit tedious, especially since I already had alternatives in my stash but good to have if one doesn't.
Conclusion - From experience, use the kit parts or aftermarket designed for the Trumpeter kit as Cold War Studios provides the conversion parts needed and the rest can be from the kit. My gear bays, including the nose, will be from Metallic Details and they will fit this as they were designed for the Trumpeter kit with no alterations needed. The resin in the Cold War Studio (CWS) conversion is soft so, take your time cutting the Trumpeter fuselage to fit the resin nose halves, expect to reinforce the joint using strips from inside and there WILL be filling needed. However, this is the most complete set one will find with CWS always being a great value. The conversion includes cast resin, vacuum-formed, PE, 3D printed resin, paper seat belts, mirror foil, instrument dial film, AND masks for less that €30.
After going to their site, I see they have a complete MiG-23ML/MLD nose correction set which I missed and had ordered the Metallic Details nose instead!
