LionMarc Model Designs 76mm M1A1C Barrel for Sherman

With the release of Tasca's 76mm armed M4A3, aftermarket items were expected.  Especially, since the barrels included in the Tasca kit are in two parts.  LionMarc Model Designs has answered the call by releasing one of the two kit options in metal form.

------------------------------------

The three barrel pieces come within a sealed plastic sleeve within a ©Ziploc bag with stiff cardboard under a stapled heavy paper header.  There are no instructions for the three parts.  The header does state that it fits both the DML and Tasca kits, more on this later.

As expected, the parts are beautifully machined and turned without any traces of tooling.  The bore of the gun tube has simulated rifling without any twist.  The locking washer and thread protector simply slide onto the end of the barrel.

The fit to the Tasca mantlet is perfect without any modifications needed.  However, the opening in Dragon's mantlet is a touch small so some drilling is necessary.  Not finding any suitably sized drill bit, I scraped the inside of the barrel hole with a blade then simply gave up.  It fits the Tasca kit and I was happy with that.

As for accuracy, the exposed length of the barrel from behind the licking ring to the start of the mantlet should be 92.75 inches (2355.85mm)  which in scale would be 2.65 inches (67.31mm).   The diameter behind the locking ring is 4.865 inches (123.57mm) with a straight taper to a diameter of 9.8 inches (248.92mm) at the entry to the mantlet.
The kit measurements are as follows, 0.1375 inch diameter at the muzzle end, an exposed length of 2.81 inches, and a diameter of 0.184 inch at the mantlet end.  Other than the length seeming too long by 0.16 inch (4.064mm) the other dimensions are extremely close.
I bought my set directly from LionMarc Model Designs and they will be available from Old Dog Models by the time you read this.
