A Glorious 38 C Morning

Oh wait, I forgot the negative sign in there. Sun trying to burn thru the ice fog and the snow nice and crunchy. Luckily, no wind (yet). Expected high of -29 C with win chill pushing -45 C tonight. 🥶

Highs breaking-20 C by next weekend will feel tropical. 🏖️

Cheers,
Rich

All I can say is...HA HA! ☃️
We're in 50F Looks like we're going to miss this artic blast down here in Dixieland.
I fill for ya Rich, deep rooted memories of loading nukes in -30f at 3am. We were told we wouldn't load if it were -20f, I think the thermometer didn't go below -20.

Sunday morning at -42 C. Another foggy start.

Ah... the good old days! N2B parkas with the fur hood, face masks, and goggles. Don't miss them at all.

It is snowing in CLE. Look sort of like a Currier and Ives painting, until you have to shovel.

PICTURE! :yipee:
It's only -4 F here on the frosty prairie!
The Dutch had killer cold weather gear. I still have one of their Navy sweaters. It's comfy!

Rich I grew up in Winnipeg so I know the -40C feeling all too well. About 16 years ago I made the move to BC and the Okanagan valley. It was +6C and sunny last friday. I even went for a bike ride. We are supposed to get down to some -20C overnight lows this week though which is very unusual for us.

My parents were BC-ites, Dad from the Fraser Valley, Mom from Penticton. When they retired back to Penticton, spending 2-3 weeks out there at Christmas was my winter break.

Funny story, I got to Grand Forks in May '83, I got assigned to the barracks and noticed out in the parking lot all the electrical junction boxes between the rows.
I commented "Well that's nice of them to get us power to work on our cars and stuff."
My new bud looked at me kinda funny, "those are for block heaters."
"Block what"?
Hell I didn't know, we get snow once every 2 years down here. :bm:

In the early years (1978 was MF 01), some of our southern Maple Flag visitors thought we were very technologically advanced when they saw all the cars that were plugged in. They thought we all had electric cars.

This a block heater.

We have a server weather warning with snow and ice and a low of -2c.............really :) I mean its colder than that in my bathroom most days :)
Its part of the global warming thing the Media likes to push. When i was a kid my mum used to save the washing for what were "Blowy drying days" and the washing would billow on the line. Now these days are called storms and are given names like storm nigel or storm imminent death...and we are warned not to go out ?

My first winter in Alabama, the news was reporting severe winter conditions: 30F. I walked on campus the first day of Winter term and there was NO ONE outside. I saw a campus cop and asked him what the deal was and he looked at me like I was insane! I was in a bomber jacket and jeans, he had a parka on and huge gloves. "you must not be from around here, it's F-ing cold and everybody else stayed home. That's when I became acquainted with "cold" in the south. 1/4" of snow and 6 states totally shut down.
