Sherman 18's TT Calliope

Sherman 18

Master at Arms
I'm in with this little beauty. A Jordan Products Highway Miniatures 1921 T Ford Calliope Truck. It is really called a TT but I'm not going to complain :) I love these kits, great fun and this one looks to be very cool and different. I want to jump the gun :blink but I can wait for another couple of weeks.

These are great little kits! I did the Mack Hook and Ladder fire truck a few years back.

Terry :ro:

I like TTs! Why are you snickering?

Hehehehe when I read the title I expected a tank with rockets on the turret , not this  .

Should be a kewl build so lets goooo !

Good one!! Did expect a rocket launcing tank

This is even better!! Get to work now, like to see this build!!

Cheers Erik

Got a good start on this little truck yesterday. Found out it comes with a complete engine! So with that I want to give it some detail and hopefully even get some spark plug wires on it. Had some good old time fun working on this. Now I want to call in sick today to work on it.

I have to remove some of the plastic that is between the pan and frame.

004_20100503_2027508915.jpg
Started to add detail to the inside of the van box and scratch built a coil box to mount to the firewall.

Gave the inside roof and floor its first coat of paint.

That is where I'm at as of this morning. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find tiny wire?

Have a great day everyone!

now have an educated guess what i was expecting!

great start there! further detailing a H0 gauge truck - so you decided to join the voodoo boyz in the bowling-balls-in-the-pants club?! eh? obviously!

You are off to a good start, looking good. I don't know how small wire you need but you might want to check into black invisible thread too. You can find it at crafting stores.

Most stuff done tonight. Interior sides are done ready for paint. Now have the engine mounted and the extra plastic between the engine oil pan removed. I reread Letterman's How to paint wood and then modified it to work for me (read; I could not remember all of it when became time to apply the paint.)

Oil paint was smeared on and the wiped off with a old T-shirt. Note they work better than a F-shirt :p

This really brought the detail of the molding out on the inside roof.

All the bracing done on the inside, ready for paint

That is looking great ! The wood looks really nice .

I agree that Bobs Master class on Wood effects is one of the most valuable modelling reads you can use ! I have it printed out and in plastic sleeves (so I don't get paint on it ;) )

Jenny

That is a really good idea Jenny. I just mite copy you on that.

Here is another update

Inside of the van body primered

air compressor in primer, glad I did because you could still see the mold lines, more sanding needed

pipes for the Calliope primered

Inside of the van body a coat of paint. Thinking of going back and lighting the flat panels.

Small update from this weekend.

tt_003_20100510_1505029312.jpg
got the engine fitted correctly, scratch built a toe board, pedals, dash, coil box, magneto switch and speedo, also made a engine hand crank

tt_007_20100510_2010591888.jpg

Colliope built and painted. Still have to touch up it up. Then clear coat.

Too Cool! You know me though, I would have had to use brass rod on the pipes, then again I would still be cutting and fitting and plumbing...Looking good Sherm.

I know what you mean about the brass, that would look great, but it would take me a couple of months to track down the sizes. ;)

Thanks everyone for cheering me along. I'm going to try to clear coat some stuff tonight. I maybe asking for trouble with the rain we have been having.

Hi Sherman.

It is really looking good. And all the detail that is going into the interior is fantastic. And if you haven't found a source of super hyper ultra micro wire, I would suggest an old battery powered watch. They usually have a small coil of wire that is about 1/4 the thickness of a human hair.

Some pretty small stuff :eek:hmy:

Along with the basic concept that I have always had of never ever throwing away anything electomalogical without tearing it apart to scrounge all the stuff inside that I could use for modelling.

Progress has been alittle tuff on this. I ended scrapping the idea to wire and plumb the engine. Glad I did now. Work and weather has been getting in the way, and the kit just not lining up the way I thought it would. I also have had some paint problems, the gloss paint has been taking a long, long, long time to dry. I pretty sure it was operator error. I got the final test fit done tonight. Waiting for the tires to dry. So I shot a couple of pictures. It will be done or it meets Mr 4 pound hammer tomorrow night. :P It is a neat kit. I mite just get another one to really go nuts on since I have a better feel for it.
