SCRATCHBUILDING A 1/35 SCALE BA 27 ARMOURED CAR

When the primer and paint go on the bolts will be in scale.......... I think they are rivets actually? Maybe i will have too look at some reference.

That is so cool. I really like the shots showing all the construction techniques. I used a pen on plastic once and it smeared and showed through the paint and was a waste of time. How do you do it without those problems? Silly question number 2 do you make a frame inside to give strength or is it open? Thanks soo much for showing this build.

FINISHED MOST OF THE DETAILING ON THIS ONE. I HAVE TO SAY I WAS NEVER FELT SO DEPRESSED AS REGARDS TO APPLYING RIVETS AS ON THIS ONE. well over 900 revets of 4 different sizes compunded by this hateful and unbearable humid heat every rivet cost me sweat and almost tears.

the wheels where re modelled and re cast

I just wanted to get all the pictures on the next page. Thanks for sharing Alex, really great work!

thankyou DAR, MODELLGURU, SHARKMOUTH SHAWNGEHLING, DARIO, J.KNAUS AND MOON PUPPY

dario some are actually a little overscale but not a lot if you take a look at the photo of the real thing you will notice that they are rivets anmd are bigger than usual more on the lines of first world war than wwII. this is a twenties vehicle. and as modelguru rightly stated, after some sanding and paint aplication they will be toned down.

as for your question JKNAUS on this one being quite slab sided all i added on the inside where three bulkheads. i used a 1.5mm plastic for the main constuction taking into account the thickness of the plastic and also of the skinning on certain areas. i used the skinning technique because on most photos i have the armour bein riveted and not welded shows its plate construction quite clearly. as for the pen markings, i use one of the best primers in my opinion around. the U.S. produced PLASTICOTE SANDABLE PRIMER it is fantastic, it has a thin layering capability that will seal almost anything, dries quickly and as its name shows its sandable

thanks for your interest and comments and if you think that anything is wrong please point it out there is still time to rectify mistakes

Alex simply fantastic!!! The sweat and tears have been well worth it. Great work!!

Thanks for the explanation. Did you prime before using pen? I've never tried scratching a complete model, too scared. But it is cool how you went about it. Maybe some day I'll have to try.

finished construction at last and primed the model .
the mudguars where made from brass, ribbing from thin masking tape and then covered in thin adhesive aluminium sheet

The 4bo color I was refering too was actually called a protective coating by the russians when it is in fact a color.
I did alot of research to get the color ......you can see what it looks like at
