I'm sure some of you probably already saw this, but I just got it
from my Father-In-Law (he thinks I like World War II or something) ;)
Thought I would share it... I can think of a couple of Dio ideas after
looking at these...

This is the info that I got from him.

the British have a huge "D Day Museum" in Portsmouth. It is utterly
awesome. Very large, on the waterfront, with not only photos and very
large maps, but landing craft, vehicles, weapon, artifacts, etc.

Looks like they play hard to get to the image. Looking at #17, that's dio right up your alley Shawn.

Hey, check out Number 29. Someone check me if i'm wrong but the camo on that helmet is U.S. Marine isn't it? That picture would be from the Pacific, not Normandy.

Could be Normandy. The Marines wore cam for the first little bit, but they were hard to tell apart from the Germans in the heat of battle. So in Europe there was a quick change to OD uniforms for them. Saved people. Or at least that is what I read somewhere.

Hey guys, camo was used by some AD's early in Normandie but as it was easily mistaken for German Camo it was done away with rather quickly.

These are 2nd Armored Division guys and those are German prisoners for sure.

I'm with Moonpup on 29.... That sand is too dark and course for Normandy. It looks an awful lot like volcanic sand from a Pacific island such as Iwo Jima.

Wait...

I wasn't talking about that picture at all as I haven't even seen it. I was referring to US camo in Europe question, which is why I posted that picture of the 2nd AD in the ETO wearing camo.

You could very well be right about the other picture.

:peace

Can't seem to link the image directly from the site so here's the link

http://denverpost.slideshowpro.com/albums/001/496/album-96527/cache/dday31.sJPG_950_2000_0_75_0_50_50.sJPG?1272572756

And I wish they would fact check. Some slides say D-Day June 8th 1944, some say June 6th 1945, I mean it's not like some obscure engagement that time has forgotten, it was one of the biggest freakin' battles of the 20th century.

Here is a link with some info

As for the sand, I dont think you can go by colour. It changes along the coast and as with vehicles, the film of the day can be misinterpreted. Either way it is an interesting picture and the site has some neat ideas.

Not sure I like the way the Navy boys are treating their diorama in photo #3...

And yes the US Army used the HBT uniforms during Normandie and which also was short lived due to unfamiliarity within their ranks of its' use. There were mix ups as the SS camouflage uniforms of the time were not dissimilar, and wll, you can guess the rest...
And as for that #29 I'd be saying some Pacific Island, not NWE...
