Believe it or not one of those did a flyby at our R/C flying field here in Woodland, near Sacramento, a few years ago. Lots of noise, not so much speed.

I know what you're talking about.

Guy use to have a T33 painted up like a Tbird stabled here in Greenwood. He'd take it and wring her out every now and then, lot of noise but still cool.

Well I just got my answer. Googled his name and found his obituary. :zen
 
The engine was originally designed for the Jindivik target drone and only had a 10 hour life. The short life parts were replaced when it was installed in the JP but it was a maintenance hog.
