I was just checking out up in Cold Lake Alberta CA and our pal James's stompin grounds, checking out the Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake eh, saw all these aircraft parked around the ramps. Then I noticed aircraft parked on taxi ways, then what looked like six white F16s lined up in a row..

The dang satphoto was taken during their open house!

Check it out.

Date on the photo is 8/17/2004 James were you there?

Might be fun to have a thread finding items like this, then again, might not... :geek

August 17th of 2004, the USAF Thunderbirds were practicing over Atlantic City, NJ:

However, the Thunderbirds were at Cold Lake July 16th and 17th of that year:

May not be F16s? I bet google earth has some issue with dates. I see on google maps they don't list dates.

And Tuesday would be a weird day to have a open house on an airbase. I know those Canadians do things just a little different eh, but not that much.

That was at the airshow in 2009. It was held over the beach with everyone staging from Base. Here is the museum in 2009

James

I remember you talking about the airshow in 2009.

That's what's bad about this stuff, the pictures of the lake are obvious from another time because the lake is still frozen over. Surely you thaw out by July! :blink

That's right Andy, I'm checkin' up on all off ya!

I didnt look far enough. The high school is still being built which brought me to the date I said. Originally I thought that was the flight line in the 2004 airshow and I was working that one, but when I saw the high school I changed my mind. Makes sense because there is an Aurora on the line and they never came to the 2009 airshow. Now that you mention the lake I checked again and they are not from the same time period. The area is shown throughout the year from many different years which seems really stupid. Make google earth kind of a waste of time except as a novelty.

Well it serves it's purpose. I guess they make a mosaic of the images based on the best ones. could have been bad cloud cover over one area on this day, coverage over another area the next year when they took another shot. piece it all together you get a fair overview.

Thought it was ironic timing to catch the airshow from space. Looks like y'all had a really good turnout.

I've never paid attention to the dates, not sure If I ever really noticed them. :hmmm

I do know that the photos I've looked at are way outdated, especially when you get in close and use the 'street view', which also doesn't match up with the overhead view. When I look at my house, I can see my 28' camper (which I sold last fall) and the wife's old car in the overhead shot. Then when I click to street view her car isn't there and there's a construction dumpster from my last bit of renovation (haven't had a dumpster in this yard since summer of '09) and there is staging set up next to my pickup, so I know the photo car hasn't been by here to update in years.

But that must be it eh? Lots of ground to cover, too much to keep up with I would assume? It's almost scary sometimes how we may consider our back yards private, especially like some of my neighbors whose houses are way back in the woods and here I am, looking into their pool. :eek:hmy:

Kinda voyeuristic isn't it.

I do find it fascinating looking up friends addresses overseas and seeing the areas they live in. Some are story book locations that I've only seen in movies and TV, never thinking anyone really lives there. Others don't look much unlike places I see every day.

It's a neat novelty. I have used Streetview to get an idea of where I'm going on these work trips but you're right Ken, they can be very dated. I have mixed feelings about streetview, I like being able to see places I may never get to see in real life but...I don't like the idea of that camera car ridding by my house every other week checking up on me.

I read a while back that early road maps put out by car clubs were actually turn for turn photos. This was back in the 1910s, maybe 20s. Imagine the night mare of keeping maps like that current if it caught on!

I've seen where privacy cases have been made against Google because the driver of the streetview car actually went up someone's private drive way and turned around in their yard. You can even see the private sign the guy passed. But Google fought to keep those images public..that ain't right.

It's the times we live in!

There is a website out there showing 'funny' Google street view images such as a dog pooping, woman walking the street in pajamas and rollers in the hair, and so on... I didn't find it funny or amusing so I can't recall the site (unlike the one with the 'flashers' to the cameras at the end of many Disney theme park rides).

It's 3 houses in one, but our part is big enough for Veerle and me :) and a lot of models :D

Besides looking up friends places, I also like to look up places of interest. Like places of WW2 battles and such. Many times someone has pictures posted of old guns, fortifications and wrecks.

In today's AOL news,it mentions the the google photo taking truck snapped a picture of a naked woman on her porch, showing the censored pics.So it can be voyeuristic ,big brother is watching

Theres quite a few of those naked women pics flying about :mpup :mpup :mpup

The whole world is full of naked men and women however most of them have clothes on :(

( I was of course referring to the women category )
