Breslau streetfight 1945

Hi all

A jump from the desert series to something completely different...

Some facts:
Breslau (nowadays Wroclaw in Poland) was the last capital city to surrender in Germany,
on May 6th 1945, even after Berlin.
It was fanatically defended by a mix of 45,000 to 80,000 regular soldiers and Volkssturm,
with a backbone of a Fallschirmjager regiment and a Hitlerjugend regiment.
Some 150,000 civilians were caught in the fights, many of them died.
Defenders had only a handfull of recovered tanks (17) but plenty of ammunition and explosives.
It was a terrific house-to-house fight, some say even more ferocious and merciless then Stalingrad
or Berlin.
The Russians, with an overall supremacy, throw in everything they had, including criminal batallions,
but lost, amongst others, over 200 tanks.

I try to depict a group Wehrmacht/Volksturm soldiers in a streetfight.
To start with here is a typical city building made from blue foam

Now with some detail, in a basic black primer

Still a lot to do, door, glass shards, sidewalk, street, figures, a gun etc.

Thanks for looking, Willem

Breslau streetfight 1945 [update april 8]

Hi all

Here is a pic how a Breslau street looked right after the battle

Building is now painted, including battle damage, weathering, and fire traces

Detail, notice that foam has a nice fine stone/concrete structure

Some glass remnants will be added, and I started with a fancy, however destroyed door.

Thanks for looking, Willem

Hi all

Building and groundwork done, including an improvised roadblock,
where most of the rubble has been collected.
All comments are welcome !

I agree with everyone else. Just awesome. One thing though that kind of stands out to me is the road. It doesnt seem dirty enough. Maybe a good dusting with cement pigment, some roof tile pigment mixed in? When you look at the ref picture it almost looks like a dirt road (I cant believe that it is though). So maybe its crushed up dust and building materials?
Watching with interest :popcorn

Thank you all !

James: you are right about the dirt, more will be added.
But first the gun and figures have to be situated exactly.
It would be very hard to put them ON the rubble later.

Hi all

Update on 2 more figures.
I have no idea how long painting a figure takes for other people, but for me its about 6 hours.
