I didn't have a chance to check this out this AM before heading out to work. Looking forward to it though.

These are great to see! They do look colorized (to me) but it does not detract from the information they provide.

Thanks Laura,

I heard somewhere (History channel did a great WWII show that had well know actors reading letters home( like Ken Burns's stuff)) and they siad that most German film was in color at this time. Don't know if that is actual info or BS? I do know that either way I love seeing this stuff! Ryan

Thank you Laura.

That is some fantastic footage, of some extremely interesting subjects.

Personally I get this kind of thing, and have to watch each of them about 5 or 6 times. The first time I just sit and watch through and do the usual - ooohhhhh, aaaahhhh, ohhh look at that. Oohhhhh oh oh oh do you know what that is, oooohhhhh ahhh oh look at that, and that and that too.

Then the second and third and fourth time I can mostly ;) actually study what it is that I am looking at. To see the things that is so easy to miss, or to see without realising that you are seeing it. Especially things that pertain to us(and me) as modellers. Things like how much (or how little quite often) "stuff" is piled on the engine deck of the tanks. How many of the tanks have nice clean straight fenders. How many tanks have sagging tracks. And how absolutely dusty (not dirty, but that does happen)dusty, dusty - EVERYTHING - is. Then to go back and look at it agian to see what I missed the first and second and third time  .Then even one more time to see the things happening that someone at a contest will tell you that no one EVER would do. Like the two soldiers pulling the machine gun on wheels with the ammo belt dragging along behind in the dirt and dust :eek:hmy: .

And now I gotta go, so I can watch em all again for the sixth time :cheer: .

Great stuff!
Who'd of thunk of using actual snow as winter camo on vehicles. Must have been a bean counter's idea.
Randy

Pretty sure much of it is colorized. Have seen some of the footage before in B/W. It is still fascinating all the same.

I've looked at the air force film now several times and would say it's a mixture of real color and recolored, but nevertheless some great pictures in there.

For those who didn' know the German federal archive has published thousands of pictures under wikipedia-common. you find it here http://www.bild.bundesarchiv.de/ and for all not speaking German http://www.bild.bundesarchiv.de/index.php?switch_lang=en . Just test. There are some great pictures. And of course to keep in mind the Life pictures at Google http://images.google.com/hosted/life - for those who missed this hype a year ago http://images.google.com/images?q=El+Guettar%20source:life does offer some real nice shots

On the German archives, be on notice, there are some uncensored raw photos also. I know I found some of the execution of several Greeks, before during and after. No, I would not say they need to be removed. just warning that these are real photos of war.
