An unlikely escort

Thanks all!
Very kind!
I needed a mojo recharge and it occurred to me to see the thing all together and see how it's looking...here's the result of that snap together.
Looking more like a B-17 now...

far more work to do but nice to see it take shape, such as it is.

Seeing it together really does jump. :good:

I've begun work on the deceased tail gunner figure having come up with an idea to add a slumped head to a resin torso and place him down low in the turret where he can be seen but not well. Not really wanting to do the carnage described in the book. Next up are the battle damage to that turret then assembly. I think there's light in the far end of this tunnel...

Thanks all! your too kind!
I've taken on the inevitable 3 week home self isolation and because I have a B-17 on the bench I'm good to do it without complaint!
I've fitted the top fuselage cover, I had hoped to leave it removable but this was not the possible...Drat! At this time the seams have been puttied and paint work is in progress, with final assembly nearing. I constantly bump the model against the paint racks at the back of the bench and the work light above the bench due to it's large size! I will therefore try to complete each module (wings stabs. etc.) and any decalling before final assembly to hopefully avoid damaging the model (more than I already have) banging it onto things.

Thank you for looking

Yeah this beast is huge (I know as I have a G model). The photos just don't relate just how large it is. They come across as 1/48th. (nothing you are doing it's just the medium with small photos) Sometimes having a 12 ounce pop can in the photo can help.

It is coming along well Chris, keep up the good work.

Thanks guys!
Man!...14 pages I've gone and I'm not done yet?! I better stop talking and get to work!
I've begun adding the mess behind the engines, especially the shot out #2 engine. I'll do a better job of blending this all in yet. I've got most of the glazings in place and the exhaust and main gear painted and installed.

I know it's tempting to put smut in those vents but please don't! Even with a total failure like you have on #2 those vents would have been pushing clean air out and forcing the oil/smut away from those vents.

Saul, do you have a drawing of those vents?

No worries pup, I know how the vents work and what they do. The problem was I was washing the oils back in wholesale method to get complete coverage. That necessarily meant everything behind the nacelle. The nice thing about it is, I use the airbrush with OD in it like an eraser and voila...no more oil behind the outflow vents.
