200 L Fuel Drum In German Service

My StuG build needs a fuel drum to fill up the stowage area, what color would the 200 L drum have been? I'll need to beat it up some, because the piece I have is already dented. Thanks in advance!! (y)

Looks good Mats.

Mike I would think depending on the era you're doing, it could be any of the above because they would have been scrambling to get cans from anywhere. Just my thinking out loud.

If it were early on, they would probably be one color.

OMG...if the barrels are filled, that's a weight of 12 times 200 liter...2400 kilogram without the barrel weight itself,makes me wonder how much the OPEL BLITZ could carry.[just out curiousity]

Don't think it would be a problem, they had one with a big fueltank that were holding 3600 liters.

Bob, I'm adding this drum to the Overlord StuG, so I'm guessing it's anything goes.

Shot the drum with red oxide primer before getting any responses, but it looks like I'm still in the ball park. Hopefully, I'll have some progress pix tomorrow! (y)

I shot the drum with two heavy coats of Rave hairspray, went to lunch and shot it with a heavily diluted mix of Tamiya Dark Grey and X-20A thinner. I sprayed between the "hoops" so I wouldn't have to do as much scrubbing to get that rolled around look. After about 10 minutes of drying, I used a flat brush and some water to remove some of the paint. I then let everything dry for about an hour, before coating the drum with Vallejo Matte Clear. That dried about an hour before I washed the seams with MIG Dark Wash, removing the excess with a Q-Tip and Humbrol thinner. The hoops were then rubbed with a graphite pencil to get the bare metal effect. More waiting than work, but I think it turned out OK. Thanks to my mentors, without whom, I would be in the dark. :notworthy
