Adventures in soldering: The Rat Rod Wrecker

randy_ditton

Master at Arms
Hi All, Ever since Jeff and Mike posted some car stuff I have looking for a cool project. Have not built a car since the 60's ( wow, I'm getting old!)

Found this on the net....

Won't try to duplicate the 1:1 but will use for inspiration!

A Revell '37 Ford pickup is donating the cab and I stole some big old wheels and tires from an Lindbeerg Dodge L700 Tlit Cab kit....

First of many mock ups.....

Never one to overplan a project, grabbed some brass stock and got to work...

Holey Moley, Randy!! That looks incredible!! Do you need the wrecker winch setup?

Thanks Mike! Have made a start on the winch setup, keeping kind of low profile for it. Thinking about powering my version with a small motor instead of a power take off or hand crank.

Randy

Wow!

OK, looks like you've got a fair amount of engineerin' going on here Randy. But you got to tell me how you did these parts

I can do pretty good fabricating one part, it's making two identical ones is where I fubar. These are great looking.

WOW! Randy you have been holding back! Great start. Showing some great fab skills there. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

I'll be checking in every day.

Thank you folks for the positive comments:) :) :)

MP, I just showed the two good ones, not all the scrap ones!! I do use a simple little bending table for parts like this. It helps. Will post a pic tonight.

Randy

Thanks mlp and gator:) :)

Small progress to report tonight....

Moon Pup, Here's a pic of my little bending table....

Like I said, nothing fancy. Use drill bits for the bending posts and that large square thingy upper right in the photo is my beater. It is a 6" machinist square. Slides nice and flat on the masonite.

Trying to finish the frontend....

Shock mounts...

Randy you've been holding out on us. I hope you took the Ackerman into consideration, wouldn't want that
