I have a few ideas on how to improve on my RDAF Cat from several years ago, Plus, Quick Boost engines, True Details resin interior kit, metal landing gear.

Going to be building this one with the gear and floats down.

Warren, whenever you post something about PBY's it puts a dig in me. I love your work and would really like to see another one of your seaplane builds.

The dig is that I have the giant HPH beast in my stash. I picked it up with the intention of building it as a salute for a friend that flew PBY's during WWII.

It would be a long build as HPH kits are quite involved, but are beautifully detailed.

Sorry Paul! It is one of my favourites. I have three still in the stash and could easily see myself getting a couple more.

I remember when you got yours. that is quite the kit and I'm sure you'll do a bang up job of it! I only have 3 1/32 scale kits, all Ar 196's. I had thought about the HpH kit as well but think I'm going to stick with 48 scale for this bird.

I'll try not to disappoint.

I was trying to source some decals for the wings and contacted Nils at Vingtor to check the size of his 1/32 spitfire roundels but it looks like they'll be too large. Might have to get myself one of those Dspiae circle cutters and give masking a try!

Thanks Gary!

Going to have some start up pics for this later tonight or tomorrow. Just ordered an Eduard PE set to detail up the floats a little.

I found a couple good references to use as well.

Hey Warren, here is a Utube link for a PBY walkthrough. It is for a PBY 6 that was for sale and has a fairly good walk through.

Thanks guys,

Paul, that walk around should help!

Dave, I think it just needs a new coat of paint! I think I've heard of that wreck and may have seen some pictures of it in the past. looks like the nose section is off.

Here's the official start up pic

and I should mention that the True Details resin set and metal gear were graciously donated by Stoney! I've had them for a few years now, going to put them to use!

That's cool, the window on the dorsal thing, was that standard or did they vary between models?

I'm pretty sure it was standard, that was where the engineer sat, in a little seat up on the dorsal spine

there's a bit wrtiten up on this forum. apparently, they opened by sliding upwards.

When I joined MA, it was your Catalina build that I saw first and (I think) was the first build thread that I commented on... I love how this has come around almost full circle. :drinks

Lucky enough to have a 1:1 scale PBY to watch droning around the skies here in sunny New Plymouth.

Ian.

Thanks Eric, Bob and luiz!
