A WIP of an Israeli M50 Sherman

Moon Puppy has asked me a few times to post a WIP. Well here it is, CyberHobby's M 50.

I like to start with the turret. Fit issues required adding cast texture back. I added weld seams back as well using stretched sprue.

The smoke mortars on either side of the turret were not as well molded as I would heve liked. I scratch built new ones from aluminum tube and kit bases. I'll pot them up tomorrow.

Opps, missed that line, looks silver from here, that's why I asked. Anywho... :popcorn

Re: A WIP of an Israeli M 50Sherman

Thanks guys. Moon I used some sprue from Davy Jones, it is a dark olive plastic which shows up well on the gray DML kit,. It looks silver as it has become very glossy due to repeated applications of liquid glue.

Ron, I use a tube of red "Bondo" automotive spot putty. I have had one 12 oz tube for four years now. I mix a bit of putty with the aforesaid liquid glue and dab it on the turret. I use an old stiff bristled brush which I cut short for that purpose. As the glue evaporates, you get that "sweet moment" when you can just do no wrong.

You seem to be on a Sherman binge lately should be good "G" looking forward to it,I'm holding out for the Tamiya Isherman due out soon.

Shermans offer so much variety. That sounds like a funny thing to say, but when you begin researching, you discover all sorts of new info.

One of these days I will do a Olive Drab Sherman, but until then, Whoo Hoo!

I accomplished a bit more this morning.

I molded the lifting lugs to the turret.

And I finished the smoke mortars.

I'll mount these last as they would be easinl knocked off. I'm clumsy that way.

Here's the start of the hull detail.

Looking really cool. And those smoke mortars look interesting. Those are scratched?

Looking good. I still have one of the older Dragon I-Shermans in my stash but the single link tracks with the end connectors have kept me from starting it.

Thanks all.

James, I scratched the tubes and caps then glued them to the kit bases. You can see a piece of the aluminum tubing on the pallette. Being an older mold the kit pieces were not the best.

Long work week but I managed to accomplish a few things.

I scratch built the fenders as I didn't like the kit items. Why, oh why, do I attempt these things?

I also replicated the fender mounts with angle stock and hex rod.
