A SNEAK PEAK - Maybach HL64 for Sd.Kfz 7/1

Hey Everyone,

I've started work on Dragon's Sd.Kfz 7/1 Flak-vierling( 1/35th ) & I'm adding Griffon's Super-Mega P.E set ( A 1st Look review for AMPS - http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/reviews/showReview.aspx?ID=1236&Type=FL , with th build portion starting Now)

I decided to start out of order on the Kit & build th Engine 1st. I mean how much P.E. can you put on an Engine any way right ... Well 37 pieces of Shiny Brass to be exact !! I added the Linkage for the Transmission, Carburetor , Hose clamps , re-decorated the Generator/Water pump ,the Air compressor. I also added some MR. Surfacer 500 on the lower Engine block & Tranny cover to give her a Cast Texture.

So .... Here are some Pix ... Questions ? Comments, Let it fly !

Here is the Linkage for the Tranny. I noticed when I took the Picture that the Connector rod had come loose & should've been on the other side of the Lever. It has since now been corrected & You can see where I added the Mr. Surfacer 500 to the Tranny cover.

Here is a Close-up of the pieces that make up th linkage for th Carburetor & yes ... That's a real U.S. Penny ! Tiny stuff Fo' Sho' . I just wish I coulda' made the Linkage workable !! :D

Here is a good shot of the linkage for the Carburetor & you get to see the P.E. for the Generator & Water pump.

A rear shot of the Motor. with the plates for placards & a bolt head added to the Starter.

That's all for now. Back to th Bench , where I'm even scratching the Plumbing for the Compressed Air Brake system. They're more like Steering brakes on the Sprockets. Dragon has included in the Kit the Calipers for the Sprockets & the Master Cylinder for the Air brakes as well as the Air tanks that attach to th Chassis underneath

I'll post more When I get back into The Panzer Shoppe !!

Wow. Thats tiny. The engine is looking spectacular, My hats off to you for the work.

Lookin' good Erik!

I have used Griffon sets several times. I now prefer them to all other brands!

I'll be following this thread!

Bob

Dear Bob.

...it´s very nice to follow your work...it´s a modelling lesson for me , always...the texture that was applied is an excelent idea...I agree with you about the Griffon sets...by the way, did you see my thread : "A Pz being done at South Pole"...on this one I´m working with another super set from this Company...

...glad "to see you" again...

Luiz.

Hey Erik!

That is one cool looking power plant! The brass really adds to the build, I always find myself bailing out on the minute details that get hidden (call me lazy!) Nice work! (y)

Thanx Every one for th Kind Words !!

BOB, I agree with ya. This is th Third Griffon set I've used & I'm a Customer for Life ! I just wish they would do some sets for some of th Older Tamiya Kits !!

SLODDER, to answer your question , I use a sharpened Toothpick to apply th Glue & Use th smallest(WHITE) Micro-Brush to clean up around the part. These brushes are really cool & use Capillary action to Wick away th Glue, But you end up going through a lot of them if you are doing a lot of P.E. at one time !

MOONIE,

I used MR.Surfacer 500 ( Gunze Sanyo ) & stippled it on with My Very Worn & Very Loved Paint brush that was used for Dry Brushing, but now th bristles are worn almost to th point of extinction ! With the bristles being so worn it makes a Great brush to stipple with as they are so Short & stiff !!

ERIK

Thanks for the response. Again - simple tools do the trick. I hadn't considered the micro-brushes as clean up tools. So, that's another trick to put in the bag.

I find that etch like griffon uses is some of the most rewarding stuff around , I bet you get as much joy in looking over these picamatures of your handiwork as we do looking at the great detail . I think photographing your work is one of the best ways of looking back over your work too , you see so much in magnification to what you can see with your own eyes . Keeping a close watch on your progress on what is looking like an awesome build .

JENNY,

Thank You for th Kind words. You are Right-On ! I have spotted some flaws in Building & Paint "Through th Lens" as it were. It just like having a second set of Eyes. B)

What I like about Griffon's stuff is the Easy to follow directions & the Fact that Griffon usually has there sets in Multiple thicknesses & they don't try to cram everything all on one Fret. For example ... The P.E. that comes in the Dragon kits ... They give you one Fret & it's only as thick as th Screens ,despite th fact that other things that are included should have more scale thickness. Griffon's P.E. seems to have a lot of thought & Engineering that goes into th Sets !!!!

ERIK

Wow that is some awesome detailing. I think I would go cross eyed working with those tiny PE parts.
I can't wait to see this painted and weathered.

ROB,

Thanx for the Kind words. I really Dig your style of Rusting !! That Panther turned out Great !! I have a ways to go. I'm working on the Chassis so I can get back on th P.E. I'm scratch building th Air lines for the Air brake system As Dragon supplys the Air Cylinders , Master Cylinder , & Calipers for the Sprockets. I just couldn't resist adding some Brass ! Sadly it seems Griffon neglected this area of the Kit.

I haven't settled on a Unit or Camo Scheme. I like the Pz. Grey & lines of Dunkl. or Maybe the Giraffe pattern with Dk. Yellow & Pz Grey ??

I'll post more Soon. You Keep Jammin' on th Armor !! :drink

 Its amazing that these little flat peices of metal can be bent to look like real fittings. I used brass rod for the rigid lines and pre bent it to shape. I used solder for flex lines. Glad I could help some.
